We had a lovely little evening here, the staff were so lovely and very attentive! Plentiful cocktail list plus they also make classics on request. I always struggle to know where to go in Edinburgh when I come through from Glasgow, but i’m glad we found this little place, we would definitely return. Plus they played decent tunes at a nice volume level, where you can enjoy the music but still hear and talk to the person you are with without shouting or struggling to hear.

The drinks were pretty good. The vibe is very cool and chic. The music selection was also great.

Staff are completely unprofessional. Guy that served seemed like he'd rather be anywhere else and woman behind the bar talked about how their mocktails are 'overpriced for what you get'. They also put a Service charge on which I only realised after. As the place is so dark, I didn't notice it and definitely would have not paid it. We drank up as quickly as possible to get out of there.
Wouldn't recommend and won't be back.

Me and my sister-in-law wanted to grab a quick drink at a local bar near the bus station. Do not go here if you're in a similar situation. We had reservations and arrived on time. The server greeted us and asked us how many and we explained to her that we had reservations. She gave us a table in the corner near the door and said this is what we have and we have another booth in the back. The booth was in the closet.... It was an open whiskey barrel with some stools attached and that was their booth... The drinks are overpriced. The wait time for those overpriced drinks was too long. And we didn't even get to see the actual bar because we were stuck in an alcove by the door. I felt like the help. Would not come again.

Emma is amazing! Third visit and still blown away by the quality of drinks and service. As someone who is T total it is really nice to find a place with good non alcoholic cocktails and beers. Also very high praise from my partner who had alcoholic drinks from the menu. Very helpful when it came to suggesting drinks to try too.

Great little hideout in downtown Edinburgh with friendly service. This was our go-to at the end of each day. Get away from the tourist area (as a tourist) for this little gem.

Really cool design and decor. Friendly staff and good drinks. Will return in the future.

Really enjoyed our nightcap here. Very cool atmosphere with dim lighting and a "speakeasy" feel to it. The cocktail menu was interesting and filled with many delicious sounding drinks. Our waiter and the bartender were super friendly. Tried the roulette! The last two drinks on the menu are for two people. It came in a very nice presented shaker and two mini glasses (reminded me of soju). You could taste the Japanese whiskey but wasn't overbearing. My friend also go the pink drink with the egg white frost. It was delicious and light. Would come back again for another fancy drink. Also well priced.

Ok place for cocktails; comparing with other bars in Edinburgh it is not my first choice. Prices are same as in other bars, cocktails are well made.

It's a YES from me! Great atmosphere, honest boozy late night drinks til the v small hours! Ideal for dates or mates.

Nightcap was a surprising little hidden gem we tripped over while in Edinburgh. We ended up having drinks/dinner here on New Years eve because it was the only place that was open and had space for us. What we found after walking down the stairs into the basement of their unassuming building really made our evening. The ambiance is rad, dimly lit, quiet, and intimate. It definitely feels like you're in a historic building but with decidedly modern touches. The beer selection was excellent, and the food was somehow even better. Special shout out to the Halumi Cheese veggie burger. So different and SO GOOD. I've actually had a few strange cravings for another one since leaving and am beyond saddened when I realize how far away they are. On the (long) list of reasons to go back to Scotland ASAP, Nightcap holds a high place.

Made a deliberate effort to check this place out last night and scored as they had their new menu on at half-price. Sliders are not usually my thing but at £3.50 a couple of child-sized bacon rolls seemed fair enough. They were indeed okay (the black pudding ones my companion ordered were also apparently fine. Both were on the salty side though). The breadcrumbed eggs were the best bit though - hats off for managing those well. Home-made pork scratchings were a decent accompaniment too. This is probably the cosiest use of the premises there's been and the staff were certainly welcoming (glasses of water upon sitting down was a good touch), the tunes weren't bad and the atmosphere was pleasant. Like us though you may struggle to read the menus by candlelight and you'll probably find it easier to unclip them from the boards their on unless future printings are on less rigid paper. As it seems to be aimed at the beard and ill-fitting trousers brigade it's a draught beer free zone, opting instead for a good-sized list of cocktails, bottled/canned craft beers & 'table beers' which cost more than your average restaurant bottle of wine. This, as noted by the previous reviewer, is where bones of contention will lie. My companion's cocktail seems to have been a poor choice but, like all places serving those, you have to probably make the effort to go back and try a number of them out if that's your thing. Price-wise they're on a par with similar bars elsewhere in the city. Decision time comes with the small beers - are you happy paying £4 for 330ml of something can-conditioned (i.e. potentially tasting like all of its brethren) or would you rather have a full pint, with more chance of flavour, elsewhere for around £3.50? Ultimately no one's twisting your arm but these are considerations for many of us.

Was wandering around looking for a night cap and literally walked into this place. Saw this and had to drop in, im currently drinking the sleepy cat and its the best after dinner drink i have ever had. Seriously, its super chill and definetly worth a drop in!

Brief visit for the first time purely by accident. Meeting someone for a quick drink before they caught a bus out of town and was convenient location... interesting as venues go, twists and turns make it easy to get lost in but fun element as long as only had 1 or 2! Staff friendly enough, music downstairs way too loud for conversation tho, low roof = no need to crank it up! Most disappointing aspect tho had to be the "£5/can of beer as we don't have taps so will charge London prices". I know, "artisan beer + Edinburgh", but at the equivalent of about £7/pint I'll be sticking with beer kitchen, hanging bat, 9A or anywhere else if looking for good beer at sensible rates...!
