I celebrated my birthday here with a 15-person brunch. The staff were incredibly accommodating and kind. The brunch is beyond delicious, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the fireplace is heaven in the winter. Thank you to Mark and the amazing staff.

Our recent stay at The Kinsley was one of the most inhospitable we've experienced. If you decide not to read the rest of this review, read this: spend your money elsewhere, where you won't be overcharged for basic hotel amenities and then ignored or gaslit if you raise issues with management.

It was our first trip with our four-month-old, and we were booked for two nights in The Kinsley's Pearl St. property two blocks away from the main building. We were not advised upon check-in that the building was walk-up only (management informed us that this information is readily available on the website, which is true but in the fine print and refers only to second- and third-floor rooms. We had no way of knowing which floor we would be staying on). No one offered to help us with our bags up the stairs.

After settling in, we encountered multiple issues with the room. The hot water ran out after a 5-minute shower, so we were unable to give our baby a bath that evening. The thermostat in our room was broken, and we could not adjust the temperature which was already very hot. One of the sinks had a stopper that wouldn't un-stop so was half-filled and unusable the entire evening. There was no complimentary tea- or coffee-maker in the room (a basic hotel amenity at even the cheapest of motels), so we couldn't heat up water for our baby's bottle after we lost hot water to the room. We were also informed that there was no room service given the main restaurant was located in a different building from the one in which we were staying. How would you feel if you paid $500/night for a walk-up hotel room without hot water, without basic amenities like a tea- or coffee-maker, without the ability to adjust the temperature in your room, and without room service? We felt completely ripped off and taken advantage of.

Given the multitude of issues and the price we paid for the room, we decided not to stay the second night and requested a refund for the night we would not be staying. We raised all of these issues to the management team, who had ample opportunity to take accountability and make it right. Instead, we were met with an offer of a 50% discount towards a single night, and no apology. We had to make multiple calls to follow up on the issues we raised and the status of our refund, and were met with inaction and excuses every time.

I have never encountered a hotel management team with so little empathy for their guests and so little willingness to turn a bad situation around. This was our first and last stay at The Kinsley, and would advise anyone considering a stay there to consider somewhere else instead.

Right in the heart of downtown Kingston, The Kinsley is a charming boutique hotel with a number of fantastic rooms in the hotel as well as in a few townhouses blocks away that offer larger, unique and more private rooms. The team is always warm and welcoming and the tiny bar near check-in is a great place to sit and recap a day of sightseeing or shopping. Truly one of our most favorite places to stay anywhere.

We stayed at the hotel for one night, and unfortunately, our experience was not very pleasant . In the middle of the night, a loud fire alarm went off, waking us from sleep. We had to rush outside to the street in a panic, barely dressed, which left my girlfriend particularly shaken.

When we tried calling the reception for assistance, no one answered, and we ended up waiting outside in the cold. When a staff member arrived, they told us they didn’t have the key to disable the false alarm, so we had to wait even longer for the fire department to resolve the issue.

While we understand that unexpected things happen, the way this situation was handled didn’t feel professional. We would have appreciated more thoughtful communication and at least an apology for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, the lack of responsiveness left us with a disappointing impression of our stay.
