Very busy and vibrant place. We've had our best eel rice dish here. It's not the cheapest but certainly worth it.

There's plenty of restaurants to choose from and they are priced roughly the same throughout.

It's easy to get to via JR line or subway and it's best to visit early in the morning. Most importantly, don't eat before you go. You need space for all those fresh and delicious seafood!

Visited March 2024. It's a very popular area to visit and appreciate as seafood is a staple of Japanese cuisine. A lot of people recommend going very early to avoid crowds. I can't say that's true, but when I got there around lunchtime, there were a ton of people. I'd say expect long lines no matter what time you go. I always recommend getting crab legs even if expensive!

This is your classic tourist trap. It's not a market where you'd find Japanese people buying their produce. Stuff is super expensive when you compare it with other parts of town. However, some of the food is OK (strawberry mochi is amazing); maybe this is a good starting point for tourists.

I love to visit a market when we travel, and though I know it is very touristy and not cheap the experience is great. We ate quite a few things you can’t regularly get back home and the stalls we went were very good. I recommend the grilled seafood (scallops, crab and abalone to try). You have to have the grilled tune skewers and eat food quality tuna sushi. Finish with curry bread!

A must-visit tourist destination when in Japan. You can find yourself in a crowd of people navigating through the masses to get to interesting shops that serve delicious and fresh products. I was able to try some fresh tuna, oysters, uni, and more! Don’t fall victim to buying everything you see - prices here are in the higher end due to being a tourist trap. A worthwhile visit still!
