Historical place with significant character for the town. You can go for a climbing experience thorough the tight inner stairs, a superb view will welcome you at the top (don’t forget to bring your camera and some binoculars).

The ticket place could be signaled better as well as when you need not be in the tower, we were a little afraid of the bells going off.
Otherwise the tower is great, not claustrophobic despite the tight initial corridor.
Great views at the top.

Awesome landmark of Baia Mare and a must visit!
The best view of the city is here, and the funniest climbing!
10/10 would reccomend, just get yourself ready for a ton of stairs!

Free entrance to the tower, it's important to go after the clock does it's job otherwise you're going to have a headache 😆

Beautifully restored it features very little in terms of history, basically just some details at the bottom, not much of a museum if that is what you look for. The main attraction is the view from above

The church was completed in 1376, establishing a sacred center for the community. The bell tower itself was initiated in 1446 during the reign of John Hunyadi, a prominent Hungarian military leader, and was completed in 1468 under King Matthias Corvinus. This period marked the establishment of the tower as an essential architectural and religious feature of Baia Mare.

Over centuries, Saint Stephen Tower endured multiple natural calamities that shaped its architectural heritage. A lightning strike in 1559 necessitated the tower's first major rebuilding. Later, in 1628, a mechanical clock was installed, enhancing the tower’s function and significance as a timekeeper for the town. Another lightning-induced fire in 1769 again caused extensive damage, prompting further restoration efforts.
