Nestled in the breathtaking Xi Shan Qu district of Kunming Shi, China, the Xishan Longmen Scenic Area offers an unforgettable journey to the top of Xishan Mountain. Visitors marvel at the narrow, expertly carved plank road clinging to Luohan Peak’s cliffside—a feat of engineering that permits only two people to pass at a time, ensuring an intimate and thrilling hike. This remarkable pathway not only enhances the scenic experience but also adds new vantage points, giving a fresh perspective on the majestic natural surroundings.

A Unique Mountain Adventure with Scenic Views

Visitors often choose the open-air cableway to ascend, which offers sweeping views of Dianchi Lake—the largest lake in Yunnan province. Once atop, you can stroll to the Lingxu Pavilion or embark along the cliffside trail to the iconic Longmen gate. Though the stairways can be slippery during rain, and the narrow paths require mindful navigation, especially for elderly and children, the serene atmosphere and panoramic vistas reward every step. For descent, a combination of cableway and electric battery cars provides a convenient and scenic route down the mountain.

The translation is ”The West Mountain Dragon Gate” this is also a very scenic area on top of a mountain where you have a complete view of the entire city of Kunming. The hike is quite long about 2-3 hours to get the the Dragon Gate and there is a lot of people there. But well worth the trip.
