I must admit that the National collection was far better than European collection. Romania's paintings were interesting, some of them beautiful - it took us about 2h to see everything. On the next day we visited oriental + european part - oriental really surprised me. Must-see for fans of Japanese art! I also recommend seeing the historical area of the palace, it's just stunning! Overall, great experience. Weekly ticket for all displays for student costs only 10 lei.

Visited both the palace and European art section.
So the palace is a very quick tour and not too much to see. Not mandatory at all (and not worth 24 RON entrance fee).
The European museum has great pieces of art, many good Italian (mostly on religious themes) and France paintings and sculptures.

Absolutely worth visiting. Took about 3.5 hours to make it through the full museum, both the European and Romanian sides. Definitely opt for both. The European art side has a great selection of medieval through 1800s art, and the Romanian side is full of medieval Romanian/Ottoman religious art and iconography plus more modern Romanian artists. Definitely worth the visit

Went to the Romanian art history side of the museum as there is 3 options to choose from. The museum was nice but very hot inside. Some of the translations to English for some of the portraits were questionable but other than that it was nice. There was little to no information or history on the paintings descriptions which was a little disappointing but still nice to just see the art.

Interesting museum divided into 3 floors: the first one is about Romanian Medieval art and includes icons, silverware, embroideries and sculptures. The second and third one are about Romanian Modern art and includes paintings by artists such as Nicolae Grigorescu and Ioan Andreescu. The visit lasts about an hour and a half, the single ticket costs 24 RON (about 5€), otherwise the combined ticket with the European Art Gallery costs 32 RON.
