A comprehensive experience to taste Icelandic food and drinks in affordable way. I recommend to have a look and order one of the options in the menu to share tastes and local delicatessen (some interesting tellers to share) and to order different main so you proceed sharing the experience. Either meat (long cooked lamb in particular) and fish were nicely served and tasty. An optimal summary of the Icelandic cuisine.
Service is very fast and supportive in the orders. We were gently offered to wait for a table to free-up at the bar desk, and we could enjoy the wait in front of a beer.
Location is in the centre of the city, easy to reach. Restaurant is nice, but somehow uncomfortable if you sit in the tables near the entrance: door is continuously opening and cold air hitting you while eating.
All in all very recommended!

We visited Icelandic Bar in December 2024, and it was such a cozy and memorable experience. The bar had a warm and inviting atmosphere, made even more special by a pianist playing Christmas music—this added a romantic and festive touch.

We decided to try some of the traditional Icelandic dishes, including puffin, fin whale, lamb head, and a selection of local beers. While these aren’t dishes I’d personally order again, it was a unique and worthwhile experience that I don’t regret. For lamb lovers, the lamb head with beer sauce was surprisingly tasty.

I’d definitely return to Icelandic Bar, whether to explore other dishes or simply to enjoy a drink in the cozy and charming environment. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an Icelandic dining experience with some special dishes!

The lamb stew here was amazing, one of the best meals of our trip. We also loved the fish pie. Really great atmosphere and Icelandic food! Was well worth the wait to get a table!

Very pleased that they had gluten free options, including a beer! I got the Arctic char and it was delicious! My friends (no allergies) enjoyed their food as well! They had live music and it was an overall very good vibe. We ate here twice (once dine-in, once take-away). Highly recommended!

Had our lunch from this awesome restaurant. One of the best places in Reykjavik where you can get authentic Icelandic dishes and that too at a reasonable price, according to Icelandic standards of course ;)

We had the starter that contained whale meat, local lamb soup, fish of the day and a desert. Everything was simply delicious. Place gets but crowded quite easily and you might have to wait a bit to get seating, but they make sure to find you a place as quickly as possible.

Would definitely recommend 10/10
