They were kind to accommodate a larger group on short notice, and were very understanding as people came late etc. I highly appreciated their flexibility and professionalism in this regard.

I mostly enjoyed experience but felt that the food left some to be desired. The quality of the white asparagus was not great (way too fibrous and stringy). While the overall execution of the cooking was fine, I felt in several dishes that ingredients were added "just because" and didn't really blend or harmonize with the rest of the flavors nor did they add interesting texture. Further, I felt that mashed potatoes were reused across several dishes, which made the menu feel quite repetitive and not particularly inventive.

Nairod is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. Proudly Catalan, beautiful ingredients, masterful technique, intimate and relaxed space and service. A mainstay on my itinerary on every visit to Barcelona. An anchor tenant on my to-eat list. And unless I’m only staying a few days, I always double-dip with 2 visits. A perfect representative of those places that are not Michelin, don’t aspire to be, but certainly match the highest level of cooking without any of the gimmicky theatrics. No plastic, uptight service. None of the tweezerfest buffoonery in the kitchen. Just beautiful classic cooking that takes time and effort and pride.

It saddened me to see some recent negative reviews of this place. Since I started coming a few years back, meals have always left me deeply satisfied, and more times than not, blown away. But restaurants wax and wane, it’s hard to sustain excellence - so of course, coming here on my first night in Barcelona this last trip, there was a little trepidation that perfection had been marred. And moreso, when I learned the excellent sous chef had left a few months earlier, chasing his girlfriend to a horrible gastro wasteland. (Haha.) That could certainly explain a dip in quality… And, the menu did look slightly different. But - upon my first bite, all concerns evaporated. Much ado about nothing. Seasoning was still perfection. Tastebuds were still in delight. No magic touch lost from Rusti in the kitchen. Excellence, still.

The man is magic with his little birds. The “hunting menu” is the star. Take that route. You won’t regret it. In a neighborhood full of beautifully cooked quail, Nairod’s is at the top.

On my second meal, I paid the ultimate compliment, I think, for a restaurant. I had a late lunch and was still quite full arriving at 9 for dinner. Oftentimes, regardless of how much you walk around or how many digestifs you quaff, you can’t reset your appetite. Especially on a second visit. Not so at Nairod. I still inhaled the entire game menu plus the mollejas (which you can’t skip here) and a fish course. Everything smelled and tasted that great. The gut could not say no.

So, still, Nairod is at the top of its game, sustaining its excellence. Understandable it might have hit a few bumps after losing a great sous chef. And it may take some time to regain its previous perfect rhythm. (We need those eggs back on the menu!) But the main character is still at the helm. And he’s still putting out beautiful plates. Already looking forward to my next trip to Barcelona and Nairod, and those morsels of delicious little birds.

During my recent visit to Nairod in Barcelona, I was thoroughly impressed by the overall dining experience. From the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional—attentive, professional, and truly engaged. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that every detail was perfect, especially when it came to selecting the right wine. They were knowledgeable and offered thoughtful suggestions that perfectly complemented each dish.

Speaking of the dishes, the quality of the ingredients used was outstanding. Each bite was a testament to the chef’s commitment to using only the finest and freshest products. The presentation of both the food and wine was also impeccable, with each plate being a visual masterpiece before it even reached the table.

The timing of the courses was perfectly managed, allowing us to savor each one without feeling rushed. It’s clear that the kitchen has mastered the art of pacing, ensuring that every dish arrives at the right moment.

Another aspect that stood out was the cleanliness of the restaurant. Everything from the tables to the restrooms was spotless, which added to the overall positive impression.

Finally, I have to mention the cuisson of the dishes—it was flawless. Whether it was the perfectly seared meat or the delicate texture of the fish, everything was cooked to perfection, highlighting the chef’s skill and attention to detail.

Overall, Nairod is a restaurant that delivers on every front. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience in Barcelona.

Among the best quality value Spanish cuisine in Barcelona.

The cooking was Spanish but not the same like most traditional Spanish restaurants. Most dishes were priced in  the €20s. Besides the portion was good enough to share. It's delicious that you would put it on top of your list to come back again and again. The baby peas with blood sausage was our favorite. Tender, delicate and savory.

Great food! The beef cheek and the duck were both super tasty. Definitely get things to share and select various dishes. Two appetizers plus two mains was plenty of food. The bread was very good.
