The lost waterfalls historical overview in boquete panama.
Nestled within the lush cloud forest of Boquete in Chiriquí Province, Panama, The Lost Waterfalls, also known as Las Tres Cascadas, has become a treasured hiking destination since its establishment in 2015. This scenic trail offers an immersive experience into Panama's vibrant biodiversity, leading explorers to three breathtaking waterfalls tucked away in verdant surroundings.
early beginnings and trail establishment
The Lost Waterfalls trail was first created in 2015, aiming to provide adventurous visitors with access to three stunning jungle waterfalls. Nestled in an area rich with wildlife such as elusive quetzals and native snakes, the trail quickly gained popularity among hikers seeking both challenge and natural beauty.
trail enhancements and visitor safety
By 2018, growing visitor numbers led to significant trail maintenance focused on improving safety and accessibility. Steep segments were reinforced, wooden steps installed, and ropes tied strategically to assist hikers during challenging climbs. These enhancements ensured the trail remained manageable yet thrilling, accommodating both casual nature lovers and seasoned trekkers.
conservation efforts and current visitor experience
In 2020, an entrance fee of $10 per person was introduced to support ongoing conservation efforts and trail upkeep. Visitors now enjoy well-maintained paths winding through shaded, cool cloud forest terrain. Swimming in two of the waterfalls is a popular highlight, despite the invigoratingly cold waters. While the hike is moderately challenging, requiring proper footwear and occasional use of ropes, it rewards adventurers with stunning views and encounters with the region's diverse flora and fauna.

A gorgeous hike where you get to experience three waterfalls. The hike is moderate/easy but short, roundtrip without extensive stops is about 1,5h but with time for pictures and swimming stops I would recommend 3h. The entrance fee to the hike is 10$ and a roundtrip taxi is about 25$, but totally worth it.
