Nice and cozy restaurant, with a small regional menu, and sustainable ingredients. The service is very kind, prepared, and not invasive, highly appreciated! The atmosphere is really nice, but the room was very noisy - maybe a table less would have been perfect.
The menu is small, but everything is really delicious! I can recommend everything we ordered.
Also the wines are pretty genuine.

Very nice service, small regional menu, cozy rooms. Wine recommendations and a nice selection of wines available. Here you will find great value for money. The products are perfectly prepared and meet the regionality of the season. We would love to come back, Basaal is a great addition to the culinary scene in The Hague!

Basaal offers a sustainably sourced, well curated menu with great attention to detail. It's a new discovery for us, we stopped by for a small dinner for 2 so we could only try their smaller dishes but we were surprised by how delicious every plate was and how each component in the dish complements one another. We ordered the pork and duck terrine, mussels with miso and cider, veal tongue and the ricotta dumplings. The mussels were by far our favorite, the broth was incredibly savory and so balanced that you could drink it on its own.

They have a good wine menu as well, with decent selections per glass. The staff is knowledgeable about both the dishes and the wines. We were satisfied with the service, they were helpful and kind. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is very modern yet cozy, and the window seats have a nice view of the street.

We will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in The Hague, if not my favorite. All the dishes are balanced and the portions are not too stingy. The staff is also great at recommending good wine pairings and the ambiance is great year-round. We’ve had a cozy dinner inside, but we’ve also enjoyed sitting in the sun right by the channel.  I really like how the chef doesn’t try to be fussy by adding too many elements or ingredients to the plate. Everything is restrained.

In my opinion the thing that makes this place really unique is that the chef pays attention to texture when composing dishes. Every dish has contrasting textures (crunchy, smooth, etc.) and elements that elevate the eating experience. I was impressed with how this was carried through throughout several courses. There are very few places in The Hague that pay attention to this.

Order a-la-carte, go for a set menu, it doesn’t matter! It’s all great.
