A bit of a steep climb up via some steps. Once you're up, you're up, though. It was freezing on the day that we visited, so take a coat as there is not much shelter. A lot of rebuilding work is going on at the moment, and some areas were closed off due to the various visitors. Maps show where toilets are located. One in the busiest part charges the rest where free to use. A few cafes and restaurants around the area.

Visited the museum in early fall, the size of the castle where the museum and Hungarian art galleries are in covers a massive size of ground.

The entire architecture is gorgeous and feelslike a maze , with various path connecting different parts of the castle with constant ups and downs. Some stairs can lead to a locked metal door.

The view surrounding the castle is breathtaking.
It was such a beautiful ground to walk around and enjoy the Hungarian historical architecture, and arts.

Staff working inside the museum and art gallery are very friendly. Entrance fee is also reasonable. There are a good amount of tourist on the castle ground, but given the massive size of the area it doesn’t feel very crowded and there was no line to get into the museum.

It was a great experience and definitely recommend to visit.

This is a great museum if you want to learn more about Hungary from its very beginning to more recent eras. There are enough exhibits to keep you busy for 3-4 hours. We bought the combo ticket with St Stephan’s hall which had a couple bits of history and the actual hall itself is an extremely ornate but small room.  Throughout the museum there are also some hands-on activities. We made it through in 2 hours and were walking quickly through the last few floors. We stopped for beers and a snack at the outdoor Pavillion bar/beer garden which was really cute and had a nice view. The entrance to the museum is a little hidden so we just stopped in the national galley entrance and asked directions.
We went on a Friday and it wasn’t very busy.

What a fascinating museum! Often overlooked but it gives the visitor a rich historical experience and one learns of the kings of Hungary and several prominent families over the centuries. King Béla, the Holy Roman emperors and more.

The entrance fee is little and worth the money! Just follow the arrows at the castle complex as the museum is not too easy to find. Would recommend visiting!

This was my favorite museum in the city. It was very large with impressive collections of a wide variety of art. I especially enjoyed the collection of works by Munkácsi Mihály, such stunning painting. Overall I’ve spent two and a half hours in the museum. Comfortably walking around and taking in all the incredible artwork on display.
