To reach one of the most underrated beaches on the islands, preparation is key. Starting on La Digue with a bicycle pointed south is only step 1. The ride to the beautiful Grand Anse takes about half an hour, but to reach Anse Cocos, you’ll need to put in more effort with two jungle hikes. These hikes are not overly strenuous but challenging enough to deter many, ensuring you'll often have a slice of paradise to yourself. While the hike isn’t excessively demanding (families with children were spotted), it’s best to wear comfortable shoes (unlike my slippers), apply sunscreen, stay hydrated, and prepare for some knee work on inclines and potentially muddy paths. About 20 minutes into the hike, you’ll reach Petite Anse, a checkpoint of sorts. The real reward, however, is another 40 minutes away at Anse Cocos. There is food and drinks on the destination to refuel. On the day we arrived, a grill buffet was being prepared by the beachside bar, offering top-notch Seychellois cuisine. At the far end of Anse Cocos, a rock formation creates a natural pool, visible just after the intro of this reel. This natural pool is much calmer wave-wise than the main beach and those granite rocks are just extremely photogenic.
