The absolute best part of our trip to Cape Town, do not miss this!! We did the spice shop and a couple of stops Cultural Tour and learned a lot of facsinating history of the Area. Zayed was a fantastic quide and knowledgeable and invited My Wife and myself into their home. Zoelfaa (Zayed’s sister) led us for the cooking class at her home. We made a vegetarian curry, rooti, samoosas, and dhaaltjies (chilli bites)… all typical Cape Malay foods. I love to cook and I learned some very cool tips. I recomend this experiance to anyone visiting Capetown it was one of my most memorable experience.

My daughter and I did this cooking tour. We really loved it! Zayed was very friendly and shared a lot of info on the background of the area and also food/spices. Then to be welcomed into their home for the cooking side of the tour adds a very personal touch. Would recommend.

I first did this tour and cooking class 10 years ago with Zainie Misbach, so I was excited to return and see how it had evolved. It’s so nice to see the company now being run by Zainie’s children since she’s retired (but is still very much present during the class).
Zainie’s son, Zayed, did a fantastic job welcoming us and taking us around the Bo-Kaap neighborhood before handing us over to Zainie’s daughter, Munowarah, who led the cooking portion. Overall it was a lovely time and would highly recommend.

This was fun with so much good food! They did as much as they could to accommodate my food allergies (gluten free) and I was able to eat about half the dishes made (curry and dhaltjies, but not roti or samosas). We also got to learn about the history of Bo Kaap and had a chance to buy some spices and other ingredients from the market to take home for later use. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that when I emailed asking about food allergies before signing up I was told I'd be able to eat everything but the roti. However that was inaccurate, during the class they also said that they couldn't make the samosas gluten free. It would have been nice to have the correct information upfront to avoid disappointment the day of the class, but it helped that the dishes I could eat were fantastic.

Thoroughly enjoyed this unqiue cooking experience.

The tour started with a visit to a local shop to learn about which spices are used and how. The remainder of the walking tour covers various points of interest in Bo Kaap and the history of the community.

The cooking experience involved plenty of participation and they are great at explaining the different techniques required to create various dishes which make up the meal at the end.

They were extremely friendly and welcoming, additionally they were extremely keen to answer any questions about the food and local area.

We'd definitely recommend this experience and it was a firm favourite from our time in South Africa.
