Had a fantastic time at elgr. Food was so tasty and the wine pairing was great. We opted for the 3 course tasting menu with wine pairing. We got a range of charcuterie, salads and meats.

The sommelier was very knowledgeable and gave us a brief on each wine and its origins. Huge variety of local wines as well as a few international ones, they even had Lebanese wine.

We tried the sheep milk salad with watermelon and chickpeas which was super creamy. Anchovies on toast with cheese, raw beef salad, and the loin which were all amazing.

The servers were super helpful and informative which made our dining experience really fun.

Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a fun place to take their wife or date.

Some dishes were delicious, such as the Kilimanjaro cheese salad and the watermelon with cucumber salad. The brown anchovies were a salt and fat flavoured treat. However, the other meat dishes were overly salty: heavily salted crisps with the beef; and too much salt with the spinach on the pork dish. Furthermore, so much garlic in the stomped potatoes that accompanied a dish with aioli already on the plate.

The wine pairings were innovative and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. However, one of our waiters had clearly been smoking and the smell and effects came in with each dish.

Exceptionally crafted dishes that come in very generous portions for the price. We had the chef’s menu and were given the option to customise it slightly to exclude items due to dietary restrictions (or just taste preferences). The cocktails were the best I have had recently and it was impossible to not order one after the other. Stellar service from the host, legendary Jose, to the servers. Amazing atmosphere where even the four, rowdy drunk girls were welcomed.

Unexpected surprise while meandering up Kloof Street after an intense Labia movie. Just the right atmosphere we were looking for, charming waiters, doorman, warm, vibey, interesting menu, very good wine.

Great food, interesting wine menu and lovely backyard garden!

The food comes in a sharing style with enough food on a plate for 2. Really good combinations like Beetroot & Burrata with great flavours & spice.
The wine list is interesting with many smaller wine producers but great choices. More on the pricier side and from the looks of it, they do a lot of cocktails.
Service was good, maybe a bit slow at times… we were early and the restaurant was empty but filled up very quickly.
All in all a great evening well spent and will be back again for sure.
