All blocked and locked up... Though still an interesting structure. I mean to be fair it's just a block building as the name says.
The best part is the view, it looks out from the North, across the East all the way to the South.
Managed to be their with all the pretty pink flowers blooming and a bit of sun climbing through the clouds. A real treat

King's Blockhouse gives you excellent views over the City Bowl, Waterfront, right down to Newlands. This alone is the best reason to walk up here from Rhodes Memorial.

All the big trees have been cut down so if it’s hot, ensure that you stay hydrated and remember the weather on the mountain can change quickly.

It’s not recommended to walk up during wet weather or after the rain because the path becomes a little river, and it’s pretty slippery.

You’re not allowed in the block house any longer, but there wasn’t much inside anyway, to be honest.

Many trails meet here, and you can choose to walk up to Devil’s Peak, to Lower Cable Way station, or even down to Newlands Forest and Constantia via the Contour Path.

Be on the lookout for mountain bikers, some of whom can ride quite fast and they can surprise you.

The walk up take about 45 minutes for the moderately fit and the parking at Rhodes Memorial is free.

Beautiful views of the city and the harbour. There are many ways to reach the King's Blockhouse. I Would say the easiest is to park on Tafelberg road at the last parking spot before the road is closed for public cars and walk the flat path. You can also start from deer park, from Vredehoek Quarry or even Rhodes memorial. Actually all the Table Mountain paths are connected somewhere. Going alone is not recommended at any time.

Although the climb looks daunting when you stand at the bottom of the hill, it is, in fact, not that difficult! There are a couple of steep stairs, but they are separated by many flatter pathways!
Once you reach the top, you'll be amazed by the fantastic view over the whole city! It is really worth it!
You can access the King's Blockhouse via different trails. We started at the entrance of the Rhodes Memorial Monument parking lot (at the bottom), walked in the forest, along the dam, but you can drive all the way to the monument and park there. You can also start from Newlands or at any other entrances along the Table Mountain!

Stunning views from here. It's a pretty steep  walk up but it's not too long to get up to the Blockhouse.  Park at Rhodes Memorial Restaurant/Tea Garden and take the road on the left going up the mountain.  It's a good path but a lot of stones and rocks so wear good hiking boots.  Its about an hour up for slow walkers.
