Classic steakhouse in a vintage British pub set up. Was recommended this place by the concierge of my hotel when asked about a good zebra meat steak. Went there after a hike on the Lions head mountain, so I needed a solid dose of protein. Their menu is vast, but unfortunately, they did not have zebra meat. I chose the springbok, and they have steaks in 250gm and 500gms options. I chose the 250gm steak with a side of chips and pepper sauce. The steak was done nicely and went well with the pepper sauce. The highlight, though, was the dessert. They have a huge but cute board listing desserts. I chose the malva pudding, which was a cake served with a warm custard and ice cream. The dessert was divine, and each bite felt like I was in heaven. They have a huge selection of wines as well. The servers are efficient and were managing a busy monday night quite well. Cost me ZAR 535 for the entire meal.

This is a quaint old-school British restaurant which is family owned.

If that and good steak and unreal ribs are what you’re looking for give it a shot.

There’s a guy called Nick further down in the reviews saying they’re fatty and taste like pork, well Nick, that’s what one looks for.

Rest of the table all ate steaks and were delighted with the tenderness and taste.

Also, the Peri-Peri basting 🤌🏼

The restaurant's decor is a bit worn and old fashioned (a mix between a German and an English pub from the 80's). The waiters are very friendly and they give good advice for the pairing wines. We had ribeye steak and a T-bone steak. Strangely I got a rare-medium ribeye while I insisted for a medium medium cooking. A bit odd at a steakhouse. They cooked it again and afterwards it was cooked to my taste. The wine was delicious and we had a delicious dessert. The waiters suggested a great local sweet treat malva pudding. On the expensive side but still affordable for Europeans visitors.

The second visit to Nelson's and we had great service from the waiters.
Corkage quite pricey (R150 per bottle).
Had the beef short ribs and the garlic fillet.
My steak was delicious, baked potato perfect. Unfortunately, the ribs, although nice, we not the best we've had. But that said, they were very tasty.
Their prices are definitely on the higher side for steak and ribs so perhaps not a regular choice. But nice for every now and then.

The food was good but it wasn’t anything breathtaking even though it was quite pricy. They have a very wide range of sides which is a positive and their green beans are delicious. The restaurant seems to cater to a much older more foreign crowd. It is set up like a house and quite dark inside.
