This stunning heritage building transports you out of the city while being in the city centre. The staff are calm and with a variety of spaces to sit, you really feel at home. The staff are so friendly and the food! The food is amazing. French toast is a must, and the chicken livers is one of the best in town, especially with the in-house mossbollekies.

Stranger’s Club – Green Point

There’s no denying that Stranger’s Club is gorgeous. From the high ceilings and wooden floors to the arches and exposed brick, the space feels like it’s been lovingly restored with just the right amount of modern flair. The marble tables inside and the breezy seating outside create a relaxed yet polished vibe. It is the kind of place that makes you slow down and take it all in.

They’ve also nailed the lifestyle aspect. Inside the main building, there’s a shop packed with local gems. From clothing, to skincare, and all those little things you didn’t know you needed. Then there’s another shop out back that’s like a treasure chest of African art, jewelry, and home decor. It’s vibrant and worth exploring, even if you’re just there for a coffee.

Stranger’s Club has a lively, welcoming energy. The mix of locals and travelers gives it a buzz that’s fun to soak up, especially if you’re a people watcher like me. It’s one of those places where you might catch snippets of conversations in a dozen accents, which adds to the charm. Just be prepared, during the busy season, it gets packed, so a booking is a good idea if you want to avoid the rush.

The food here is simple and fresh, though it can sometimes feel like it’s playing it safe.
I’ll start with one of the breakfast items.
The scrambled eggs on sourdough with cream cheese, pesto, and a little side of tomato sauce hits a nostalgic note for me. The tomato sauce might not be for everyone, but I think it pulls everything together. I added avo on the side, but it wasn’t quite ripe, and the dish didn’t really need it anyway. The pesto’s saltiness was the real star.

Now, to the lunch menu.
The chicken mayo with avo sandwich is solid but could use a little more flavour. The honey mustard mayo barely made an appearance, and the chicken needed a pinch more seasoning. The bread, though, was fantastic. It was crispy and fresh.
The Asian slaw salad with honey and soy dressing (plus chicken and avo, because why not) is a feast for the eyes. It’s colorful, fresh, and generous in portion. This used to be my go to, but lately, the dressing’s flavors feel a bit watered down. It’s still good, just not as bold as it used to be.

Oh, and if you’re a coffee drinker, like me, their flat white with almond milk is absolutely spot on. Creamy, smooth, and perfectly balanced.

What sets Stranger’s Club apart is the atmosphere. The staff are warm and genuinely kind, which always leaves a good impression. The design and energy of the space make it feel special, like a place you’d happily spend a lazy afternoon. The food isn’t groundbreaking, but the overall experience is what makes it worth a visit.

This is the kind of spot that leaves you feeling like you’ve found a little gem, even if it’s not perfect. It’s thoughtful, lively, and just a lovely place to be.

If you could dream of the perfect café, this place would come close. A café in a villa that is over 100 years old. Beautiful courtyards, great design with an eye for detail. Small retail options cleverly integrated into the café. Wonderfully attentive service and great food and excellent coffee. There is a lightness to everything. You don't even want to leave. One of my favorite places in Cape Town.
