Had an excellent experience at waterside. The presentation of each course was spectacular. The food had good influence of western and Asian flavors. Service was also very pleasant and one point. I did not give five stars for food only because for certain courses, I think the chef tried too hard in terms of mixing flavor profiles. For example, there is no reason to add the bland scallops into an Asian spiced pork belly dish. The bland and soft scallops took away from the rich profile that the dish otherwise had. I did not select the chef's wine pairing because the selection did not look adequate for that price point. However they do have a good selection of wines by the glass. Everything was good except the Tawny, which was not aged enough to serve at a restaurant of this profile and price point.

If you intend to splash out and have an evening to remember whilst in Cape Town, then this fine dining restaurant is definitely one to put on your list. Its setting, overlooking the bustling V&A harbour area, is perfect and the entire experience is relaxed and fun. We left after three and three quarter hours of culinary delight with the biggest of smiles on our faces which was in no way induced by the wonderful wine pairing! I hope the photos give an accurate idea as to why you will not be disappointed when you visit. Well done to ALL the team both back and front of house.

The thing I love about Waterside is, every time you visit, there is something new, different and better, and they keep raising the bar. The food is superb, the fish perfectly cooked, the Asian / Cape Malay influence works, beautiful lamb, mango desert to die for and well thought out vegetarian and pescatarian menus, great selection of wines and now Coravin selection by the glass. Unusually for a tasting menu, every dish superb, visually amazing and full of flavour, presented in a friendly and informative way by the enthusiastic team members. I would say it’s worth going just for the cactus dish - try it and you’ll see what I mean (and that’s after the bread course already blew you away). A real treat and should be top of the list for any foodie visiting Cape Town.

The biggest disappointment:(
We booked the place long in advance. The interior is nice with a nice view, however it’s extremely loud inside, you can’t even hear the waitress who tries to inform whet she brought. First dish was very nice and tasty, and that’s all. Rest was unbelievably spicy, that you didn’t feel any taste. Eating in the dark you won’t recognize any change, it could be also cheap bread with same amount of chili. The wagyu was like a chewing gum.. food was presented in a beautiful way, but it’s fine dining so you expect it.. after informing the waitress that it’s too spicy and last 3 courses we didn’t feel any difference, she informed that „the chef likes spicy”.. so it’s not for you to enjoy the food, but for the chef, to check how much you can handle.. the waitress manner were very pour, she served wine to man first later to me, and she didn’t even walked around to serve me. They describes the dishes quite poorly, so it wasn’t a culinary experience, but sad disappointment and waste of money and evening. I was in protege 2 days before- hence I have good comparison what you can expect from
Fine dining. This place is nothing to recommend. And paying mandatory gratitude fee first time was a shame, not for such bad experience.
