I went there around 5:30-6pm and the bats (during the evening) would come out by sunset so around 6-6:30. It was definitely a good experience seeing this because you’d be surprised by HOW MANY bats there are coming outside of that cave and it goes on and on for half an hour or so. Nature is beautiful.

Took a Tuk Tuk from the hotel and arrived about 30 minutes before the bats emerged. Sat with a couple of beers. Quite busy but not manic. Definitely a must do while in Battambang.

Just remember that bats gave their own nature rhythm. We came on Monday night and streets are lined with street vendors as tourists all wait for bats to appear between 6 pm and 7pm. They didn't when dusk turned to night. But if they did, I'm sure it'd have been spectacular. The Buddha's carved into the hillside is remarkable

It was an interesting experience, the wait, the anticipation and finally later than expected they came out by the Millions. It's an awesome experience. The town of Battambang is not as improved infrastructure wise, but this experience was awesome.

Rent a scooter from Battambang and go see this unusal natural wonder.
It's unfortunately become a bit touristic with the people lending chairs against a fee or a drink, however the constant flow of bats for 30 minutes is mindblowing and make it worth it.
Be careful on the way back, as it gets dark at this time and the traffic can sometimes be dangerous.
