Var fascinerad av konceptet med hotellet inbäddat i en befintlig hutong där lokalbefolkningen fortsätter att bo. Ingen möjlighet att bo och så tänkte jag besöka hotellets restaurang istället. Det var en intressant promenad från lobbybyggnaden till restaurangen, förbi en offentlig toalett som användes av de boende, bostadshus, färgglada anslagstavlor med vardagliga anslag och upplyftande slogans för de boende, och hotellrum minglade däremellan. Restaurangen renoverades oklanderligt och matsalen höjdes på andra våningen med utsikt över de kaklade taken på de omgivande hutongerna. Servicen var vänlig och maten var utsökt. Vi åt wagyubiff, hälften kyckling och calamari.

Pasta var förfärligt slapp med viltlevande lammragu (köksmästaren, tydligen influgen från Italien, förklarade detta för att tilltala den lokala smaken, men servitrisen hade frågat när hon tog beställningar om vi ville ha pastan vanlig eller "mjukare" som vi svarade regelbundet på) Fisk var gammal och hade fiskig smak Kammusslor var ljumna och medelmåttiga Pizza var smaklös och hade subpar deg Sallad hade rostig sallad Jag har ätit bättre på ett flygplan. Detta var inte av godkänt betyg, än mindre av MO standard. Kocken avstod från räkningen men avskrev oss också: han var inte öppen för feedback, verkade inte vilja höra något av det ("Jag har redan avstått från räkningen vad mer vill du") . Önskar MO Qianmen lycka till. Hoppas de gör rättvisa åt marken de tjänar på genom att hedra den med excellens för att komma hit kändes som ett slöseri med resurser på alla nivåer.
