I recommend that long-time Marriott loyalty members, particularly those who were part of the Starwood program, reconsider staying at Ritz-Carlton properties. Unfortunately, these hotels often fail to recognize and honor the loyalty and privileges that come with long-term membership. Instead, the focus seems to be shifting solely towards revenue generation, leaving loyal guests feeling undervalued.

There are many excellent five-star alternatives available that truly appreciate and reward customer loyalty. Why spend your money at hotels that prioritize transient guests over dedicated patrons?

For instance, during my stay at the Ritz-Carlton Guangzhou a few months ago, I noticed significant issues stemming from their growing reliance on short-term accommodations. The property appeared to be experiencing wear and tear, presumably due to transient guests. When I recently tried to make another reservation due to its convenient location, I was informed that no upgrades were available, regardless of my loyalty status. The service quality was disappointing and far below the standards one would expect from a Ritz-Carlton.

It’s disheartening to see such service decline, particularly for long-term loyalty members. In light of these experiences, I encourage other loyal Marriott members to explore alternative luxury options that provide better recognition and service for their continued patronage.

We were booked into the Ritz-Carlton for 4 nights, spending Christmas in a country that does not celebrate Christmas. The chief concierge Rocky and his assistant Krystal made sure that we were well looked after. They help to book us into nice restaurants, directed us where to get souvenirs, taught us how to use the local Uber, suggested sight seeing places, and even helped to buy the train ticket for the forward journey to the next city. They also gave us a room with a view of the Guangzhou Tower which was fantastic at night. All in all, a very good experience

I can rate the Churchill Bar only as we did not sleep in the Ritz Carlton but visited the Bar twice.
After 6 years out of Guangzhou, we spent two evenings in this wonderful bar again during the Golden Week. Nothing has changed since 2018, the same ambiance, the same good service and the same good cocktails. Thank you very much for not changing anything on this success-formula. The only thing for critic would be the much higher cigar prices than 6 years ago. The rest is reasonable and really worth to pay a visit. I would like to mention that the Churchill bar has still outstanding live entertainment. The service team changed naturally but is still very professional and helpful. A place, I shall return with pleasure!

Amazing hotel and service. The hotel staff speak good English and Lin is the best. She’s the breakfast manager, and she was very attentive to everything we requested. So many options they provide for breakfast. The service was out of this world, and this makes me want to come back and visit china more.

For the brand name of Ritz Carlton, this was a really underwhelming experience.

Getting in:
My DiDi driver got shoo-ed away by front staff so I had to carry my luggage in the Ritz. Even before I entered, none of the staff bothered to help.

At reception:
They had trouble understanding English. They did not have my Marriott status on the booking even though it's attached to the receipt. They also did not read the benefits or said anything about my status until I asked about it. And funny enough, they were confused when I asked about my benefits because they did not know enough English. Fwiw, I booked through Amex FHR.

Facility:
Lobby is beautiful. Gym is lacking with low KGs of dumbbell, unnecessary weight machine, and really stuffy. The pool, they require a head cap, is a old classic look. Definitely expected something more upscale

Room: We got the river room and we can only partially see the river if you stand at a angle. The grapes were great and the bathroom water pressure was amazing. No upgrade available.

Biggest problem: However, the A/C was loud af and a ringing noise woke us up at 6am. Room 2018? has problems. Called the frontdesk and they got someone to come up in a few minutes. The guy showed up, saw the problem and left. I had to chase him down at the floor after 5 minutes of waiting for something to happen. It's 6am and I need sleep. I suggested another room and they were able to get me another room (wrong configuration), however this caused a slight problem that it's not worth by energy to explain.

Breakfast: Mid at best with all the breakfast buffets I've ate at. Their rice rolls took FOREVER, had no flavor and the skin was plastically. Any street stall can make rice rolls better at a faster time and more silky. Noodle station were all carbs and veggies. Tht meat options (other than eggs, bacon) were lacking. The best was the porridge station.

I've stayed at the Waldorf in Bangkok, Kimpton Bangkok, Regent in Phu Quoc, Hyatt Hakone and Conrad in Tokyo. This was the first Marriott (and last) and probably the worst 5 star hotel experience I've had in Asia.

Seeing other people's Ritz Carlton experience looks night and day versus my experience.
