As I write this I am thinking I didn’t really have anything special for lunch. I ate some amazing palav, absolutely flavourful chicken gassi and some of the best fish fry. None of these dishes sound fancy. Infact you get these in many restaurants.
I think taking some of the popular dishes and making it in the right way with the best ingriedients is what Bangalore Oota company has perfected. This may seem simple, but is it not.
Take mutton palav for example. The rice has a lovely flavour to it thanks to pudina and green chilly. The mutton is cooked so well, it is almost melting in your mouth. It’s served hot from the dum and you feel the freshness in every bite. The Kane fish fry is perfectly coated with rava and fried in coconut oil. Similar treatment for the prawns which is served hot with the palav. The freshness of both the fishes are evident in every bite. The badam halwa with its mild sweetness but richness of taste makes every bite a slice of heaven. The first taste of the gassi makes you realise how good a relatively simple curry can be. Sanas and Kori roti soaks up the gassi so well that you can keep having it. Both Betroot and pumpkin palya was super tasty.
The entire meal is orchestrated in such a way that you are struck with distinct wonderful flavours as you go through it. Each and every dish is unique and makes you discover something new.
The best part is you like something and want more of it, just ask!
The hosts were amazing and friendly. They are very attentive.
The meal takes about 2 hours and it flies by! You will end up eating a lot more than you expect due to the sheer taste!
This is a must go place if you want to taste home style Karnataka food. Be prepared to be wowed!

It’s a nice concept, but a little overrated. You can get a lot of the same food in Bangalore’s military hotels, messes and traditional spots. And the host Divya was somewhat controlling, kept mocking our eating style, making fun of where we are from, and kept removing dishes that we wanted to savour slowly to make space for the next course. It made the experience a little stressful rather than relaxing and enjoyable. That said the food was fresh, hot and homemade and good flavours. But nothing extraordinary or new.

What a lovely meal by Divya and her team — possibly one of the best meals I have had in Bangalore. Delicious home cooked food, generous portions and a wonderful atmosphere. The appetizers, fried ladyfish, mutton pulao were really well done and the mango acar was amazing. Even the filter coffee paired with the Badam Halwas was a perfect end to the meal. Highly recommended for anyone interested in trying an authentic local experience.

This was an amazing experience for our group. I likes the way they planned the food experience was amazing. I liked the fusion of Gowda and Mangalore cuisines. Felt it was tad bit more expensive

Located in the charming Halasuru/Ulsoor area, this restaurant is perfect for those who want to experience and showcase the rich culinary traditions of India, specifically Gowda and Mangalorean cuisines from Karnataka. In a city increasingly drawn to international flavours, Bengaluru Oota Company beautifully bridges the gap to authentic local tastes.

This homestyle restaurant offers a unique tasting room experience with an intimate dining setting. The daily changing menu mirrors the variety of home-cooked meals, where every dish tells a story, culminating in a fairytale ending with Ammani Jamuns and their signature filter coffee.

Our meal began with a refreshing glass of buttermilk, perfect for cooling down in the unassuming Bangalore summer. The sight of a banana leaf placed in front of me filled me with joy, as it is my favourite way to enjoy any Indian meal. This was followed by a delightful succession of dishes, each accompanied by engaging food conversations with Divya and the chef.

We started with Kosambari (salad) and Goli Baje, a nostalgic Mangalorean snack served with chutney. The Kane (lady fish) rava fry is a dream come true for any Mangalorean, with fresh fish fried to perfection. The Koli Saaru, a Gowda preparation, had a wonderful flavour and texture that paired beautifully with akki and ragi roti.

The prawn biryani, made in the Mangalore Christian style, sparked an interesting discussion about the types of aromatic rice. We all agreed that South Indians have a special love for short grain aromatic rice. The mutton pepper chops were tender, with the spice and aroma of pepper enhancing the dish, while the chicken fry reminded me of the beloved chicken 65, showcasing the excellent quality of meat used.

The meal continued with piping hot rasam and palyas (subji), yellow pumpkin, beetroot, and snake gourd, along with a delicious peanut chutney, rounding out this homestyle feast. Just when I thought it was time for dessert, a bowl of creamy curd rice topped with pomegranate seeds appeared, served with the seasonal treat of mensakai (mango curry), bringing back fond memories of my mother’s cooking.

The Ammani Gulab Jamun has its own history and story, but I’ll leave that for you to discover when you visit. The meal concluded with a frothy cup of Karnataka filter coffee, the perfect end to a culinary journey through Karnataka's heritage flavours.
