Very fortunate to have a good guide for just 2 of us. Didi has done more than 4000 trips but still maintained his enthusiasm. Tough trek but he was supportive and let us do it at our pace. We were blessed with an awesome sunrise.

The most grilling trek to the top! You need to be fit to climb this majestic mountain. We started at 2 am with our driver picking us up at the villa and dropping to the summit. We were served breakfast and tea and taken to another spot to meet our guide. We started the hike around 3:45 am. First part is paved and then groups are taken on different pathways to the top. Lots of gravel on the way so make sure you have good shoes. My hamstrings and calf muscle was on fire 🤣.
Once you reach the top every ache and pain disappears. They have a tea shop with snacks and blankets for purchase if you feel cold. The sun played hide and seek for us. We have a very cloudy view from the top.
The decent took another 2 hrs and equally tough. Overall an excellent trek to the top and a must do for anyone visiting Bali.

It was a wonderful and one of a kind experience to hike a volcanic mountain. The climb isn’t very difficult. You can hike the mountain from base in 1-1.5 hours. Although there is no entry fees to enter the mountain area, you will be made to pay at the checkpost by some locals, under the guise of mandatorily hiring a guide. Would recommend to go through an agency.

The hike gives you the best views atop, provided it isn’t a cloudy day. Descending is little challenging and takes more time (due to the loose gravels). The struggle is well compensated by a bath at hot springs, just few kilometers away.

If you want a peaceful hike on your own, this is not it. It is quite busy and comercialized. There are shops on the way to the top and people trying to sell you bracelets when you’re waiting for the sun to rise up the top. All the bad stuff aside it is definitely worth it. It took us about an hour and a half to hike up the mountain from our hotel. We waited for about 45 minutes for the sun to rise and it was very spectacular. If you’re in Bali I say you should do this. If you’re decently fit you can most definitely hike it in under three hour, if you’re not decently fit, you should work on that, but you can also take a motorbike up to the top. These make a lot of noise so if you’re hiking it can be quite annoying but the view up the top is worth every bit of agony.

The views are great but you have to go early to get a good spot, otherwise you can’t go to high and see it better.
