On our first day at the Ritz-Carlton Kyoto, we dined at Jean-Georges. Located not far from the hotel, the restaurant offered a quiet and serene atmosphere. This was my second time experiencing Jean-Georges, following my visit to the New York location, and the signature dishes were nearly identical. At Jean-Georges Shinmonzen, the main course—the Wagyu beef tenderloin—was so tender it practically melted in my mouth. The strawberry dessert was equally delightful. I heard there is a Korean chef on the team, but unfortunately, I didn’t have the chance to meet her, which was a bit disappointing. While Japan boasts many excellent French restaurants, if you’re dining in Kyoto, I would highly recommend Jean-Georges.

Absolutely fabulous! Every dish was superb! The beef was, by far, the best we’ve ever tasted in our lives. It was a splurge for us but so worth it. From the cocktails to the dessert, everything was delicious. We sat outside with the water streaming by. A truly magical evening. I highly recommend dining here if you are in Kyoto. We didn’t get a photo of each dish but posted what we did record.

An exquisite meal. My husband and I had the tasting menu which was so delicious and well presented. Highlights were the egg toast caviar and the roasted amadai. The staff were wonderfully attentive and gave an explanation of each dish. We were also treated to a celebratory dessert plate and small gift as we were on our honeymoon. Thoroughly indulgent meal, highly recommended!!

I had lunch and the price was very reasonable for the quality. There was a slight hiccup in my order and the manager and server swooped in and fixed immediately and offered an incredible glass of sake for my minor inconvenience. Leila was my server, who spoke excellent English. My Japanese is fair at best. What a treat to visit while in Kyoto.

My thanks to chef Hana Yoon, chef Jean-Georges and all team of Jean-Georges at Shimonzen for providing a delightful experience.

The serenity of Gion along with quality of food at Jean-Georges, especially with his classics of tuna tartare and caviar toast bring a wonderful experience to me. I know the moment the first dish is given, you are in a good and capable hands. The quality, the service and the experience are something I would like to revisit. Hopefully next year with my wife.
