We were staying in the hostel on the corner and went looking for a restaurant for dinner. We found this place. The proprietor and chef was an older Japanese man who spoke no English, and only my youngest daughter had any Japanese language skills. We managed to order up some very delicious yakisoba, two servings of vegetarian and two servings of beef. It was delicious! He turned the TV to a baseball game, and we communicated that we were from Seattle and saw Ichiro play when he was a Mariner. Later, two local women came in, clearly regulars because the proprietor starting pouring their beers before they even ordered. The next night, my wife and I went back in for a nightcap. We were the only ones in the place. We watched TV with him (some kind of Japanese talk show). He brought us a plate of food, assorted pickled and gelatinous fare -- it was interesting, and I have no idea what it was. He saw my wife was not really eating so he made her a scrambled egg with rice. She said it was the best she ever had. He also gave us two fans, four little sake cups (one for each of us in the family), and some matches that had the name of his restaurant. If you are in the neighborhood on the evening and want to hang with a very friendly guy, you should check out this place. The meal we had on the first night -- four plates of yakisoba, a highball, and two beers -- was only 3300 yen. As you can see, all the menus are on the wall and in Japanese.
