What a beautiful and picturesque temple.

The downside is that if you don't get there early, the crowds are overwhelming.
We were there by 820 am and there were only a few people ahead of us, as they open at 9 am but by 845 am , bus loads of tours started showing up and in a matter of a few minutes there were large crowds of people on the luneup.
However, if you're visiting and you are not in a rush, then you can wait until it clears enough for you to take your pictures at "the spot" where the temple is across the water.

Besides the main temple, they have other smaller temples, shrines, and shops.

It's a quick one-way loop that's one way and takes you from the entrance to the exit, so take your time and get the pictures you want along the way.

I was not disappointed and would definitely return again.

Wonderful atmosphere especially with the autumn foliage. The golden temple is stunning in person! You really can’t take your eyes off it. I bought tickets on the day off with no waiting. I would recommend going earlier in the day to avoid the crowds.

We came on a Saturday afternoon in fall, it was busy, but not ridiculously packed and we didn't have to wait in line or anything. Location wise it's a bit removed from the main city and not accessible via trains, you either have to bus or taxi. The park is pretty, but rather small; I don't know why but I kinda expected more. The building itself is beautiful and the architecture is incredible. Once you do the the U path around the temple the path gets narrower and leads up to some smaller shrines with a bunch of touristy stuff and it got a lot more dense with people, so we didn't stick around for very long.  All said I'm glad we went and saw it, but if it had been summer or packed I doubt I'd think it worth it.

Very impressive temple in Kyoto. It looks exactly like made of gold. Breathtaking view and very calm and quite place. Great panoramic photo view. We visited the temple along with a daily tour and spent there around 45 minutes. We didn’t wait on the queue as our tickets were already purchased by our tour guide. Strongly recommended.

Beautiful!! We went around 430pm and the crowds were gone. It closes at 5pm. The people running the place were so kind. Even though you have to pay admission it isn't a lot. You could tell it goes to keep the grounds. Wow. We actually got lost trying to find something else and ended up here... and it was the best detour we made. Highly recommend it.
