I can’t express enough how wonderful our stay at Hotel Mume was! From the moment we arrived, it felt less like a hotel and more like visiting cherished friends. Hisako, the proprietor, has created a truly enchanting boutique inn that radiates warmth and hospitality.

The staff at Hotel Mume are nothing short of amazing. Their graciousness and friendly demeanor made us feel right at home. Every interaction was filled with genuine warmth, and it was clear that they truly care about their guests. The level of personal attention we received was exceptional—every detail was thoughtfully considered, making our stay truly special.

The ambiance of the hotel is delightful, with charming decor that reflects a perfect blend of modern comfort and traditional elegance. It was a joy to unwind in such a serene environment after our adventures.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have discovered this lovely inn. Our time at Hotel Mume created lasting memories, and my sons and I are already dreaming of the day we can return. By far the BEST service I have EVER had from a hotel stay. If there were 10 stars I’d rate them 10’s across the board. My husband and I went to Japan for our honeymoon in October 2024. Upon our arrival, the staff there was INCREDIBLY sweet and full of information. Snacks and free beverages were given go us upon arrival as they went over amenities and such. But what really set this place apart was their attention to detail. We were asked about our plans around Kyoto and the staff provided us with maps, the most efficient travel methods to take us there, directions, food recommendations in the area we’d be in and SO much more. But what really was the icing on the cake for us, was when we were departing and traveling to Nara, the receptionist called our next hotel and informed them that we were running a bit late, and that we would likely not make it for our dinner service. She somehow, convinced them to hold our food for us when we got there and emailed us while on the train to let us know that she was working with them and mentioned that if there was anything else we needed, to let her know AFTER we had checked out. When we got to our next Ryokan, we were astounded that at about 8:45 pm our dinner was ready for us on arrival despite running later than we anticipated. If you’re visiting Japan DEFINITELY give this place a chance, you won’t regret it, we won’t ever forget it!

The most beautiful and kind staff I have ever met. The food was fantastic and the service was even better. Staying here was such a wonderful experience and I wish I never had to leave this amazing place!!! The rooms are so pretty and well designed that being able to spend my time there seems magical. Thank you for such an amazing and helpful experience, you kindness meant the world to me and my family.❤️

We were so happy to have chosen Mume for our brief stop in Kyoto. I had seen photos of the Butterfly room when researching hotels and was happy that it was available.  The ambiance of the room, and the hotel was perfect.
Everything about the hotel is exceptional. We have never experienced the level of courtesy and attentiveness in our many years of traveling.
Every hotel in the future will be measured against this one.
We had already decided to return to Japan, and this stay made that decision easier.
Thank you for a fantastic experience.

What a fantastic hotel! The staff here are amazing and such lovely people. Nana helped us for an hour when we arrived to plan where to go in Kyoto and Nara - so lovely! I would totally recommend this hotel if you are coming to Kyoto.
