It’s a Buddhist temple with really amazing architecture. Large wooden buildings very beautiful. Very close to the Kyoto station it’s about 5-10 minutes walk away from Kyoto station.entrance free. It  was beautiful and peaceful inside the temple. Not crowded like other temples. Great place for meditation. One of the best temple in Japan. Love this temple

This is a large temple housing one of the world's largest wooden structures.   It's a short walk from Kyoto station so conveniently located for visitors.   Entry to the grounds and temple is free.  The main attractions are the two large, expansive halls. A small gallery bookends the walk through the temple.

This is one of the largest historical wooden buildings in Japan. It is truly magnificent architecture, with a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. Even though it is a short walking distance from Kyoto Station it is not crowded and noisy at all, if you are lucky you can see the monks. The Kyoto tower view from the garden is nice. The artwork inside is absolutely beautiful.

One of the largest wooden structures in Japan. I visited at 8am on a weekday and it was peaceful and beautiful. At times I was the only person in the temple. There are good leaflets and English signage guides at a few points. I would highly recommend a visit off peak hours to this wonderful temple and its story of renovation. It’s a magical experience early in the morning and mich less crowds compared to the “must see” temples in Kyoto. I would visit again.

A short walk from Kyoto Station and is also not crowded, maybe because it wasn't as popular.
Enjoyed the sheer size of the temple and it's vicinity. There is also a flea market outside the temple on the Sunday when we were there.
