Kyoto Chuka institution. Know for there Teridon (think gyudon but more stir fried then braised) and Mapo Tofu. A bit pricier than other places but offers a nostalgic taste. English menu is available and they are foreign friendly for a very local restaurant.

We came as a group of 2 and waited ca. 40 minutes (planned 20 minutes). We were served with in 10 minutes of ordering our food. Our expectations were very spicy food but besides the spicy indicated food nothing was spicy.

We ate mapo tofu (small)which was just the right spiciness, Seasonal vegetables with garlic, 1 bun, vegetable pickles, and the teridon (small).

We spent ¥4900 and would definitely come again!

Performance and value are very high 4.5/5!  Long Q!  We ordered tan tan-men, yodaredori Chicken, Shanghai Shia-long-pau, Huigourou, potatoes fried, gyoza, and mapo-tofu.  Two beer bottles.  10500Yen.  For two.

I highly recommend it if you want great food. I had a single plate of Shanghai sweet and sour pork, which was true to its platter name; as it was just the pork, I forgot to ask for rice, but it opened up my appetite, and I followed up with fried rice and boiled dumplings.
Trust me when I say this: the food was amazing. Fried Rice so good it got me writing a review (I never do this). Family got Teridon Pork (medium) as a set, very great portions enough for one person who can eat and maybe 2 for those with small appetite. when we went it was near closing time (7:30pm) and it was busy, but the servers were gladly willing to accommodate us without having to ask if we had to wait.

We had the Dan dan noedels without soup it was so incredible delicious, the best I have ever had.
The Shanghai sweet and sour pork was also delicious
