I spent four nights in the Tsukihashi Maisonette at Hoshinoya Kyoto, and the experience was nothing short of enchanting. Upon arrival, I found myself in a charming boat waiting room—a unique introduction that set the tone for the stay. The hotel is accessible by a scenic boat ride, a comfortable buggy transfer from the waiting room, or even a leisurely 15‐minute walk to the main gate.

The staff impressed me from the start, offering exceptionally polite and friendly service in fluent English—the best I’ve encountered in Japan. The hotel itself radiates beauty and elegance, creating a refined yet welcoming atmosphere.

On my first night, I enjoyed a Kaiseki dinner that rivaled the quality of Michelin 2-star cuisine, yet it came at a much more attractive price. The dining experience was professional without feeling overly formal, striking the perfect balance between sophistication and comfort.

For breakfast, I sampled both Western and Japanese styles. I would recommend opting for the Japanese hotpot style, which was both unique and special, with daily ingredient variations that kept the experience fresh. The seasonal dinner set was equally delightful. It’s worth noting that, aside from the Kaiseki dinner, all meals were served in the privacy of the room, adding an intimate touch to the overall experience.

An unexpected highlight was the hotel library, which offered 24-hour access to tea, coffee, and local snacks. This thoughtful amenity provided a cozy retreat for relaxation or a quiet moment of reflection at any time of the day.

Quite a nice hotel with good rooms, and a beautiful view, but service wasn't good.

It's a bit annoying to get to as well as you have to either take a 15-min boat, walk 15 mins, or have them drive you from the welcome building to the actual hotel.

They gave piecemeal instructions on arrival (informed us there was a boat and that there's no parking at the welcome building, but not that you can unload your luggage at the welcome building instead of having to wheel it from the nearest carpark 5 mins away); took 25 minutes to check us in, and were not very helpful in answering our questions; and didn't help at all in getting our luggage in the car at the end of our trip. There were some good staff who were helpful (the boat driver was lovely, one of the staff members helped answer my questions about walks in the area, and another noticed my very tall husband and immediately went to get appropriately-sized pyjamas). Mostly, though, it felt a bit like we were inconveniences as guests.

A wonderfully relaxing and tranquil location to melt your stress away. We stayed for two nights after a hectic week in Tokyo and Before checking into our hotel in Kyoto for our second week. The two nights that we spent at this resort were so relaxing and serene. The food is unbelievably excellent and I highly recommend this resort for, a reset and relaxation .

Hoshinoya Kyoto is a stunning peaceful oasis. What a special experience to arrive by boat on the river, and see the lights hanging in the trees illuminating the resort with staff waiting to greet us. Particularly with busy touring days, it was wonderful to return to such a relaxing ambiance surrounded by nature. The common areas and rooms are beautifully decorated, traditional Japanese and incorporating the beauty of the surrounding nature. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, above and beyond! We also appreciated the pajamas and robes that were provided, very comfortable and perfect for relaxing. The food was delicious, and it was very covenient to be able to have our breakfast brought to our room, and so beautifully presented. The dinner in the restaurant was delicious, and each course was a work of art. We enjoyed the Hisui Private Boat excursion down the river. Also, the Incense Ceremony Class was very interesting. It was a very unique experience, and we highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful stay at Hoshinoya Kyoto. The warm hospitality by the staff definitely made the experience to the next level. I especially like the elegance and attention to detail of the staff who arranged and confirmed everything for us from during the stay until the exit. We didn’t have to worry about anything but to just enjoy the complete relaxation at a zen-like environment. Luxurious food and facilities can be found in many similar level hotel/restaurants, but the interaction and hosting from the persons at the hotel made Hoshinoya Kyoto unique. Although it is the first Honshinoya brand I have ever stayed, I am already looking forward to the next Hoshinoya stay because of this experience! 😍
