We had an absolutely incredible meal here, we managed with a bit of Japanese/English/google translate.

The main focus was a variety of styles of sake, paired perfectly with a tasty dish. The food was seasonal and delicious. We loved how each sake came in a unique vessel, with the bottle also presented so you can appreciate the beauty and see where it’s from (if you can read Japanese).

The quality and care that went into this meal was very apparent. I would highly recommend this for anyone visiting Osaka that enjoys food, enjoys sake, and wants to try some interesting dishes that aren’t found everywhere.

Wonderful, knowledgeable sake bar - went for after dinner drinks and my friends ordered me what might be considered a local Japanese cheese and cold cuts platter (super lovely). Might not be a place to get rowdy but super nice for good sake and long conversations. Highly recommended!

On a holiday evening at 6:00PM, I visited "Nihonshu Utsutsuyo" with a friend, having made a reservation in advance. It’s important to note that this establishment caters specifically to those who appreciate Japanese sake, and those who do not partake are politely declined entry. Upon entering, we were relieved to find that only a few counter seats remained, confirming that making a reservation was indeed a wise decision.

We began our evening by toasting with draft beers, and an assortment of appetizers was promptly served. The first to arrive was shirasaebi (white shrimp), followed by a continuous stream of meticulously prepared dishes. These included shirasu (whitebait), surume (dried squid), sashimi of baby tuna, lotus root, shiitake mushrooms, grilled mackerel, and duck breast. Each dish was crafted with care and paired perfectly with the various sake selections.

We had the pleasure of tasting renowned sake brands such as Hidagami, Hiokizakura, and Juakirabi. There was also a delightful event where we could guess the fourth sake, adding an element of fun to our tasting experience.

A particularly unique dish was the combination of persimmon and fermented milk. Though an unusual pairing, it complemented the sake wonderfully. Additionally, the fatty sashimi and richly flavored horsemeat were exquisite. The variety of grilled and simmered dishes, including roast pork and chashu, added to the diversity of flavors we enjoyed throughout the evening.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the two types of doburoku (unrefined sake). The dishes, served in approximately five courses, were all exceptionally delicious. The appetizers that came as part of the set were also of high quality and showcased intricate culinary craftsmanship.

The ambiance of "Nihonshu Utsutsuyo" was warm and stylish, with a friendly and attentive staff that made the experience even more enjoyable. The seasonal dishes and soothing music created a serene and fulfilling atmosphere.

Overall, my experience at "Nihonshu Utsutsuyo" was highly satisfying. The combination of exquisite food, excellent sake, and the inviting atmosphere made for a memorable evening. I look forward to returning and exploring more of their sake selections and culinary delights. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Wonderful izakaya specialised in sake. Warm welcoming staff, the food with the sake pairing was amazing, and the atmosphere was nice and friendly. We spoke no Japanese, so google translate was used back and forth, had such a fun memorable experience here. Definitely will come back on next visit!!
