A few things to know about Renga: - there are only 18 seats, therefore reservations are highly recommended - the meat (pork and Wagyu) cook all day and are served between 6:30 and 8:30 - Between 6:30 and 8:30 (the time for the best cut of the meat), menu is set: 10000Y per person (a la carte begins after that) - Plan to spend 2.5 hours enjoying your meal - It's a two person team: one server and one chef, but they've got it down Everything was superb at Renga. We made our reservation through Guru Navi and even though they stressed that English speaking staff would not be available, not only did our server speak enough English to describe our meals, they had prepared the course menu in English for us and it was placed at our counter spots. Renga had a full bar and we ordered a nice Sauvignon Blanc for 9700Y. I am quite certain that they change the course menu on a regular basis, but I'm sure there will be this similarity: there was a lot of food! After a creative consomme and a really tasty raw ham with cheese, we were given a large stew. I did not eat mine as I knew I needed room for the meats that were to come. When the meat was ready, our server brought the full roast to all the guests so we could see it prior to carving. After all of the appetizers, I was really surprised to see the portions: huge! A full steak and a generous portion of juicy pork, served with an array of salts for dipping. (It was flavorful enough that salt wasn't needed, but it was a nice touch). I had opted for the black truffle topping, just for fun. I had not tried black truffles before and they were super good, although the meat was flavorful enough without those as well. As hard as we tried, it was impossible for my husband and I to finish our meal, despite how delicious it was. However, we were pretty impressed with our counter "neighbors" who were able to clean their plates. It apparently can be done. Renga ends the course with a small dessert and coffee or tea. I'm glad that we gave Renga a try. My only request would be less food as I simply could not eat that much, but I am probably one of the only people who would wish that.
