Very friendly service from the staff.

The layout was quite awkward.  Removing shoes all the time got old fast.

The hot spring at the top of the hotel was very cool and a unique experience.

If you want a traditional Japanese type of stay it’s a good option.  The pajamas and kimono were a fun touch also.

After staying here for 6 nights I realized we need a more traditional style with room service, restaurants, etc especially with little kids.

It was a nice experience but I wouldn’t stay again.

If you want true luxury, stay somewhere else. I am writing this review while staying at Hoshinoya Tokyo. I was so excited to stay at the hotel for 4 nights to start off our journey in Japan so much so I even booked it for our last night before we left. While the hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms are well appointed, we are incredibly disappointed.

Backstory: I have travelled around the world and stayed at all manner of luxury properties. I have never experienced what I’m about to write about.

Prior to arriving we contacted the hotel to have help with transit from airport and to make reservations ahead of time as we know the best places in Tokyo book up weeks if not months in advance. To say they were unhelpful is an understatement. They barely emailed us back, ignored when we called (staying up until late to try and get someone) and we never heard from them until 2 days before our arrival when they asked us if we wanted a transfer.

While check in was easy when we arrived, we realized there was no concierge and when we asked any staff member for recommendations, or help with reservations/directions we were met with “google knows best”. For $2000+ a night I expect much better service. At least suggest places or help us make reservations in a city which is notoriously overwhelming and complicated.

We also were asked multiple times if we placed a breakfast order, which we had in fact placed with the first staff member who asked, and then confirmed with second staff member, but a third? I’ve never had a luxury hotel with such disconnection between the staff.

Breakfast is served daily in your room and one day breakfast was brought to us by an employee who was clearly sick- sniffling, sneezing and moving slowly. We didn’t really know what to say.

While our room was beautiful it stared directly into an office building, had no black out curtains so we slept with light all night and was lacking enough drawer space for 2 people (not just one). With so many amazing hotels in Tokyo with incredible views, I was beyond disappointed to be watching someone type.

We also tried to cancel and leave early to go to hoshinoya Kyoto where we were booked to go next- they wouldn’t let us transfer the reservation (even though its own by the same hotel and they had rooms in Kyoto).

It makes me very sad to say this as I had such high hopes for this experience, yet I will not stay here again.

I absolutely loved every aspect of my stay at Hoshinoya and wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else. It’s a reprieve from the beautiful chaos that is Tokyo. To those who are unhappy about removing their shoes, I’d say: if you're choosing a traditional experience, why not fully embrace it? I have no complaints whatsoever. The attention to detail was outstanding, and the unlimited beverage access was a fantastic touch, something many hotels overlook. Truly an unforgettable experience!

Literally the most magical, beautiful place I've ever stayed at. The entire atmosphere was gorgeous, peaceful, and perfect. The rooftop onsen was insane, one of the coolest experiences I've had to sit in the onsen late at night and look up at the Tokyo sky. I've never been one to get super attached to a hotel, but this place was absolutely amazing. From the staff to the room to the common tea area, just could not ask for anything better. Will absolutely be coming back to stay here in the future! Thank you for such wonderful memories!

My husband and I stayed here for a week in late September and had a fabulous time. The staff was so attentive and went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable.
We enjoyed ordering room service twice, once was udon for dinner and on our last morning we decided to try the Japanese breakfast. Both meals were delicious and recommended.
The location is also perfect and a huge bonus was the 7-11 right next door which made late night snacks easy. We hope to stay here again if we return to Tokyo in the near future.
