My husband and I stayed at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo for a week last October, the first of our three-week trip to Japan. From the moment we stepped out of our cab from the airport we experienced exceptional service from their truly welcoming staff. Our room was spacious, with a fabulous view and luxurious amenities. We very much hope to return for another stay some day!

This grand dame of a hotel was in a past iteration designed by the American Frank Lloyd Wright - though today only some furnishings and an original wall in the tucked-away bar attest to its past life. Now, the Japanese Modernist architecture is pure understated elegance. The staff are perfect. The rooms are quiet, comfortable and clean. Appointments are thoughtful. The location is convenient to many attractions, shopping (obviously), subway and myriad dining options.

Note that breakfast enthusiasts will be interested to learn that the hotel’s breakfast viking is the oldest in Japan. It’s certainly worth experiencing even for casual breakfast enjoyers.

The hotel bar is as classic a Tokyo bar as can be. Sitting down is like stepping into a time capsule. It’s a magical place for a quiet conversation.

I would like to not stay anywhere else but here for my next visit to Tokyo. There is nothing I can fault on this place and is 100% worth every yen.

While the rooms and interior is clearly dated but why fix something that isn’t broken? There’s about a hundred more hotels that are newer but will never offer this level of superior service. The items and facilities in the room worked just fine! However if you’re a traveller look for the modern hotel vibes then I’d have this one a miss.

I loved my vacation there because the people that worked there were very very nice and they could help us on whatever we wanted, especially help in our rooms. I also like this hotel because one person there could speak English and he helped us a lot on question about our rooms and questions about the area near that hotel. One thing I like about this place is that it is very pretty. There are chandeliers and those are really pretty. Also, they have a lot of rooms. I recommend going there.

This is a 'post-mortem' review of Frank Lloyd Wright's historic achievement in architecture, the "Imperial Hotel Tokyo". Completed in 1923, Imperial Hotel Tokyo survived the Great Kanto Earthquake on Sept. 1, 1923, as well as the B-29 firebombing raids in March 1945 that destroyed half of Tokyo. Then - During the post-war Occupation the Imperial Hotel Tokyo served as American military offices. Unfortunately, after that, business slacked off and the venerable 'Imperial Hotel Tokyo' fell victim to old age. It was later demolished in 1967. The NEW 'Imperial Hotel' in Tokyo, has taken the place (and the Name) of the historic one. I however have not staid here, so I can't review it. The iconic main lobby of the Original "Imperial Hotel Tokyo" designed by Frank Lloyd Wright has been faithfully reconstructed and is located in 'Meiji-Mura Architectural Park' near Nagoya. NOTE: I've added a few online photographs of the Original "Imperial Hotel Tokyo" built by Frank Lloyd Wright himself in 1923.

We had a great time staying at the Tokyo Imperial Hotel! You can tell this establishment takes pride in providing first class service to its clients. Everyone on staff was polite and treated us with courtesy and hospitality. When we checked in, Mr. Wataru Nakafuji, assistant manager at the front desk helped sort out a problem we had with our room. He left us his card and let us know to contact him if we had any concerns or issues. This man is an asset to this establishment and he made our stay an enjoyable one. We also enjoyed the buffet breakfast at the Imperial Viking on the 17th floor. You can enjoy stunning views of Hibiya Park and Ginza, depending on which side you are seated at. Everyone there from the waiters and waitresses, the staff doing the cooking and the folks seating patrons were all polite and attentive. Unlike other buffet breakfasts at other hotels, nothing ran out. You can enjoy both Japanese and western breakfast items here. The croissant, however, was exquisite, so delicious and flaky. Even though the restaurant was full they never rushed you and always made sure you were taken care of. One of the great things about the Imperial is its close proximity to the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Station, which was right outside the hotel. This, along with being within walking distance to Ginza, is a definite plus. Tokyo Station is also nearby. There are also always taxi cabs outside waiting for customers if you need. The hotel is going to be undergoing extensive renovations soon so it will be interesting to see what it will soon become. Looking forward to returning back to see it!

Imperial Hotel / Chiyoda (Tokyo) -- This is not a review from a hotel guest but from an aficionado of Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural designs. The Imperial Hotel he designed was sadly demolished in 1968 with major sections preserved but moved to Nagoya. What's left in the vast lobby of the current hotel is a reconstruction of Wright's design aesthetics. His style was unmistakable in the spacious lounge, especially the striking multi-color terracotta wall and the wraparound piano. Throughout the lobby are various light fixtures and other furnishings that reflect Wright's unique designs. It's worthwhile to visit, study the detail, and have a cocktail or three in the stylish Rendez-vous Lounge (review: https://yelp.to/sGkQGAeAMw). It's not Wright, but it ain't wrong. I came here specifically for a traditional tea ceremony. What I didn't expect was a private experience & thought other people would be joining us. Nonetheless it was an incredible, educational & learning experience. You learning about the how's and why's. They tell you about the tea brewing process, it's not just a ls simple as putting a kettle on the fire. it's about the stone pot, the number of times turning the pot, cleansing, respecting the tea instruments, the proper way to serve, receive & drink your tea. It was a worthwhile experience. You need to contact the hotel to make reservations. The entire experience lasted about an hour.

Amazing architecture and easily the best hotel in Tokyo. We stayed in the apartment quarters of the hotel. Such a great building. Amazing amenities and service is impeccable. Our room was so clean and comfy. Good space as well. Breathtaking frank Lloyd wright architecture everywhere. Conveniently located right by Hibiya station and park. Highly recommend staying here when in Tokyo.

This is a classic 5 star hotel in Tokyo where the service is top notch and the location is fantastic, it's walking distance to Ginza, Shimbash and Yurakucho. Where you can fine many good restaurants and shopping. I recommend staying on the Imperial floor where they have slightly larger rooms and you get a nice view of Hibiya Park. Most of the staff speak good English and they are happy to help with any of your requests.

Old World Granduer Western style hotel which I call Ojīchan. Diplomats, Magnates, Senior Military, formal weddings of important clans frequent the hotel. The experience of the stay in March 2024 is one of the heritage pieces I leave to my family. I introduced the experience to 6 family members who enjoyed the various hotel shops and restaurants (there must be 10+ restaurants in the hotel!). Part of my group was given a loaner baby stroller for our stay. I hope to one day live in one of the resident suites just to enjoy life as it use to be in the past. Trivia: To test people who say they stayed at The Imperial ask them what the Tokyo folks call it. They have not stayed at the hotel if they do not know taxi drivers instantly recognize your destination when you tell them Teikoku hotel.

This hotel has history and it has distinctive class. It is also near the Tokyo Station, so very practical for getting around. The hotel service is immaculate. The bellman upon arrival was very efficient and the check-in was flawless. We enjoyed the room and simply love all the amenities, like the pajamas, the fluffy slippers, the toiletries, the bath controls, etc. The housekeeping staff was efficient for our laundry and I very much appreciate the grace of the service staff who opens the elevators and greets us every day. You feel very VIP. The concierge service is excellent. We have had two memorable meals recommended by the concierge, both restaurants I would not have found by myself. The swimming pool is wonderful and the hot water pool and the sauna were very hot and enjoyable. That was a special treat. We especially enjoyed the selection of Shiseido skin products in the dressing room. Yummy. I would HIGHLY recommend the hotel if you covet world-class service. There are also a number of fine restaurants directly in the hotel. This is a place worthy of discovery.

Imperial Hotel in Toyko is classy, upscale, and all too grand. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, controllable AC, and a very nice bathroom. The hotel layout was initially confusing to navigate, as I stayed in the guest rooms in the tower as opposed to the main building, so getting from the main entrance in the main building to my room required a little bit of walking. Thankfully a directory map was provided with room key cards, and hallways were well-labeled. Probably the most popular restaurant inside Imperial Hotel is The Imperial Viking Sal buffet. Be sure to get there early for breakfast, as there's a long line around 8am. Food selection is very extensive, catering to both traditional Japanese and Western style. Imperial Hotel is also walking distance to the popular Ginza district, the beautiful East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, and right next to Hibiya Park. There's also many bars and restaurants in the immediate surrounding area.
