Absolutely amazing Omakase dinner in an intimate 8-seater space. Food was grand, and chef recommended sakes that were to our palette - we had 5 different types of sake throughout the entire dinner and it was such an experience. Service was great as well.

Would definitely return for another delicious dinner!

Honestly Sushi Ya far exceeded my expectations, my partner and I had the nigiri lunch omakase, 16 courses in an intimate 8 person dining setting. Chef has 25 years experience and creates absolutely mouthwatering sushi of the highest quality.

The restaurant is on the second floor and slightly tricky to locate as the signage isn't in English for tourists.

One of the most memorable and delicious meals of my life.

What a great experience!
You have to get a reservation since the place only fits 7 people at once and the master cook will prepare the fresh food directly for you. He is very skill and will explain every plate in English (more or less :) ) . Very fun, entertaining and super yummy. It is a little expensive but completely worth it.

I had high hopes given the very high ratings here and on local sites, but unfortunately it fell slightly short.

First, getting there - there are entryways from both the smaller alley and the main street on the other side.  You need to take the stairs or elevator to the second floor - the restaurants sign will be on the lobby directory.  Check out the pictures.

As for the service and ambiance, this is a pretty standard 8 seat omakase.  Everyone is exceedingly polite and speaks English well.  All the guests in my seating were American tourists.  The atmosphere is a bit more casual than most high end sushi restaurants - I wouldn't worry too much about dress code.

Finally, the food.  Overall, solid, and better than what you would get from a standard sushi restaurant or kaiten; however, not by so much as to justify the rather high price.  Standouts were the squid and the horse mackerel.  The tuna was sliced a little thinner than I would expect, and the medium tuna had more viscera than I'd expect at this level.  The flounder was somewhat limp.  And then it goes down from there.  The rice was a little too cold - whereas I'd expect it to be closer to room or body temperature.  The fish was all pre-sliced, which opens it to oxidation.  And, finally, the soy/dashi wash was really heavily brushed on everything, so I was salted out by the end.  This is all much more American style than I would expect.

Fine overall experience, but wouldn't return, nor would I recommend to friends and family.

Had a dinner course for 30 000 yen. Much food served and the quality was indeed good. However, I'd wish that there was more of sushi rather than small dishes. I also wanted some sweet end, which have been served in other sushi omakazes I've been to in other places than in Japan (maybe it's a japanease thing not to end sweet?)
There were some ingredients that was new for me and a bit too hard for me to enjoy (e.g. some kind of fish egg that was creamy)

My husband had booked this place as it was said that this place could communicate in english. The communication worked, but the language was not on such high level that we could have pleasant conversation with the chef during the dinner. The chef & staff was very friendly though and did their best.

This was the only place we visited for sushi omakaze in Japan. It felt as if the level was similar to other sushi omakazes I've been in other countries.
