Fantastic experience with the vegetarian kaiseki at Ise Sueyoshi. From start to finish, each course was absolutely delicious and thoughtful in all aspects. Each drink in the sake tasting also paired with the food beautifully! Another highlight was learning about the ingredients and reading quotes from the various producers - you could really feel the authenticity and personality behind each dish. Overall, a wonderful and welcoming experience!

Perfect food from a brilliant restaurant and a great experience on top.

The service is excellent, and the food is all explained in its history, the why, the how etc. the food was cooked deliciously and prepared fresh across the counter. We ordered the sake pairing and it was both good value and well matched also.
By nature the menu will change regularly, and you have to go in blind and not know what to expect. The fish (can’t remember which :( ) soup was delicious, the pufferfish was tasty and had an interesting texture - every course was a standout.

The value is fantastic and the venue is tucked away giving it a hidden vibe and contributing to the atmosphere

We had a wonderful time here. Right from the beginning the team welcomed us and explained the whole tradition of Kaiseki and the producers they work with. The matching sake pairing was a great experience. We also appreciated the vegetarian course menu very much. All together it was a special evening in a pleasant atmosphere which felt like a private dinner.

This was my 3rd visit at Ise Sueyoshi, and once again Tanaka San made a perfect meal for me and my friend. Everything was so delicious, and the warm hospitality was as impeccable as always. Having a dinner there has become one of my “Must Dos” when I am in Tokyo!

I wanted to splurge on one meal during my trip to Tokyo - I was debating between Ise Sueyoshi and a couple Michelin starred restaurants, and ended up deciding to give Ise Sueyoshi a try due to the glowing reviews. For the same price as some of Tokyo’s Michelin starred restaurants, I wish I had chosen elsewhere. I had high expectations for this place, and I hate to say this, but I’ve had better kaiseki in Toronto :(

The staff were very friendly and kind, but the food unfortunately fell short of expectations. A lot of the dishes were very bland and tasteless. The tuna and beef dishes were great, but other than those two dishes, everything else was pretty underwhelming. It’s a really small space, but all of the diners were tourists. I appreciate the chefs effort into creating a book to explain all the dishes, but the entire experience truly felt like a tourist trap.

This is a wonderful new Kaiseki restaurant helmed by a young, creative, up and coming chef. The menu is seasonal, so it changes at least four times a year. And the dishes here, although based on the spirit of traditional Kaiseki, are all very original. Each dish is a surprise. And every guest is given a beautiful coffee-table picture book with explanations of every dish and where it came from. Also, drinks are paired and included in the price of your meal. The fish and other seafood is in some cases rare and exotic. When in season, fresh Fugu may be offered as an ingredient in one of the more complex Kaiseki dishes. However, please note that this is NOT a Fugu restaurant, it is a Kappo/Kaiseki restaurant that sometimes offers a small amount of Fugu in one of the dishes. There are No tanks filled with live Blow-Fish, and the chef does not show you your bin full of flip-flopping Fugu fish before he cooks it, (which is commonly done in actual "Fugu Specialty-Restaurants"). If you want to experience an evening of nothing but various delicious poisonous blow-fish dishes then I suggest you try Genpin Fugu Ginza, which is my favorite "deadly fish" restaurant. Not only were the dishes beautiful to look at, most were innovative and very tasty! The service was also top notch and very personalized. This place was my number one favorite out of all the places we went to (my top 3 favorite restaurants we went to on our trip were Ise Sueyoshi, Hilton Tokyo Junisoh teppanyaki and Epicure.) I reserved through the link on their website (this took me to the tablecheck.com reservation portal. Best to register for the tablecheck site prior to making the reservation. Honestly, everything about our dinner here was amazing -- from the intimate atmosphere to the sake selections to, and most importantly, the meal. It was the best meal we had in Japan, hands down. Every single course was amazing, and the head chef gave context into the ingredients & selections. We couldn't have asked for a better night in Tokyo. What's more, I have celiac disease, so cannot have gluten / soy sauce. They were able to accommodate my allergy without issue. It was a meal my partner and I will always remember. Thank you!

I didn't really know what to expect from Ise Sueyoshi but the best way to explain it is this way: If you've done chef's table dining (or private dining at a good restaurant) then its similar but.... its more intense here, more adventurous and perhaps even more personal. The chef prepares many disparate and eclectic items but with a general theme and some of the items relate back to his hometown or to his youth. Some of the food we had was different than anything we've had in Japan or elsewhere. With only five seats and the chef and his assistant just a foot or so away at the counter it could be a little awkward if some flavors or food might not be to your exact liking. I liked everything but of course some food more than others. We decided to do the sake pairing and at $33 extra felt it was well worth it. Chef Yuuki Taneka meticulously prepares every dish and takes his time to explain what he's serving and the ingredients in it. This is really a dining experience and if you are in Tokyo its something worth considering.

Intimate Kaiseki restaurant with only 5 seats and 2 seatings per night. When we scheduled our reservations (required in advance, with payment) we arranged a completely vegetarian set course, which they were happy to do (and expressly offer on their website). Chef Yuuki and his wife Mary were so friendly and made this an experience to remember. The 11 course meal took us through the Chef's hometown of Ise and its regional cuisine. We learned about the unique produce and cooking techniques of the area -- every dish had a backstory and history. I recommend this for anyone looking for a special, intimate night out in Tokyo, especially for vegetarians looking for a nice meal.
