Wonderful location, close to the shimokita main area but far away enough to be quiet and peaceful. The staff are so lovely and the opportunity for dog watching in the mornings is amazing. The rooms are well sized - for what other places we experienced in Japan, we were pleasantly surprised how well the room size accommodated for two people plus suitcases. Really cool capsule art collections in the hotel store which added to its uniqueness. Would gladly stay again and can't recommend it enough!

Absolutely loved our stay at The Mustard! The rooms are simple but provide what you need. It’s more of a boutique vibe than a big, city-centre skyscraper hotel - which suited us. Really enjoyed oat lattes and salmon bagels from hotel cafe before a day exploring the city. The outside area is a real morning sun trap!
The locations is fantastic - only a few stops from the centre but offering some calm in a less busy and touristy part of Tokyo (the Shimokitazawa vintage shops are unrivalled).
The bar next to the hotel is a hidden gem - offering excellent craft beers with great music.

As mentioned in some previous comments the cleanliness of this hotel isn't great. The lobby is really nice, modern and clean, but once you enter the main door into the guest rooms there are stains/marks all over the carpets and walls, which was a big contrast. This continued into our room as well. The curtains on the windows also haven't been washed. There was a very similar complaint 1 month ago and I can reassure that it hasn't been rectified even though they said they would. This wasn't a cheap hotel; we paid around the same price for 3 other hotels in Tokyo and they were much more cleaner and more comfortable to stay in.

Everything else in the room was fine. The beds were firm, which I'm used to and is quite similar to other hotel beds in Japan. The record player was a nice touch. The shower in the bathroom was a bit awkwardly sized as it's quite narrow.

The location is really nice being located in the Shimokitazawa area, as there are plenty of trendy shops and vintage clothing stores. You can faintly hear the sound of train but it wasn't an issue. The people at reception were also friendly and helpful. If you don't care about the details and cleanliness, this place would be fine for you.

This is not a hotel; this is a hostel—maybe a glorified one, but still a hostel. I honestly do not know where to start, but maybe a warning is a great way to start. The price-to-value ratio is extremely poor. This is simply way, way, way too expensive for what you get.

This place is clearly inspired by more well-made examples of hipster hotels like Ace. Sure staff is friendly but a bit confused. Upon check-in, you are given a leaflet called "guests privilege" including a sheet with a set of rules for how to behave and not. Feels more like a prison than hospitality.

Rooms are tiny with the sole window placed extremely high, impossible to look out through, adding to the prison cell feeling.
A record player takes up basically half the tiny table in the room.
There are very few power outlets making charging a bit of a hassle. The bathroom is again tiny and not very well cleaned at all.

This hotel or rather hostel, is to be avoided. Unless you are a masochistic hipster.

We were really impressed with Mustard hotel. Although the rooms are very simple and small (which comes expected with the price for this hotel as well as generally Japan styles), the property is in an incredible location, the staff were all so kind, and the cafe always has people around it. They also had a pop up in the lobby. All around, we loved our stay here. Amazing value. Would highly recommend.
