If you’re lucky enough to get a reservation here, prepare for a truly memorable experience. Den Tokyo encourages you to feel at home in their relaxed atmosphere, it lacks the pretentiousness and stiffness of other Michelin restaurants. Their Den salad with the emoji carrot features over a dozen separate vegetables each cooked in a different way, and the DFC parody chicken is culinary surgery to put it short. Everything down to the tableware and ceramics is locally sourced, and the staff, despite being busy, still find the time to have a casual chat with you. Chef Hasegawa is an absolute character, and we were lucky enough to meet Den mascot Puchi Jr! This was a meal I’ll remember for a lifetime. I can only hope Den Tokyo receives their 3rd Michelin Star, which is truly deserved.

Den was the most magical first dinner on our trip to Japan.

From the incredible food, to the lively and vibrant atmosphere, to the most amazing hospitality - it was a meal to write home (and a review) about. I cannot thank the whole team enough for what will be a very hard meal to beat.

Late review! Finally was able to dine here back Mid June of 2024. It was so hard to book. Everything is fresh and delicious. Will come back again!

To no surprise, getting a seat at Den was no less than a miracle. After dialing multiple times across several days, my eyes popped when Noriko finally picked up the phone to let me know we’ve been added to the waitlist. I got to Tokyo one night before the rest of my wishful 3 person party and received a ring the day of from Noriko telling me that there’s been a last-minute cancellation resulting in an opening for 1 person. While I pleaded for a 3 people reservation the following night, I ultimately knew that when Den calls, you answer. When I showed up, I was personally greeted outside the restaurant and escorted in by their friendly staff - a taste of the warm hospitality to follow. The restaurant is surprisingly small - sits roughly ~16 people and there is only one seating a night. There are a few tables but most seats are at a counter facing the kitchen - it feels like you are front row at a broadway play. Completely unlike other critically acclaimed kaiseki experiences, Den is equally focused on the experience and hospitality aspect of the meal relative to the food. Guests are encouraged to talk to each other, interact with the kitchen and staff, and ultimately join the restaurant’s creative and lively expression. Eating at Den is like a samurai's banquet during the Shogun era, where the precision of traditional kaiseki is paired with the lively, welcoming atmosphere of a modern izakaya. The blend of traditional kaiseki techniques with a progressive, hospitable atmosphere, makes every guest feel like a daimyo at a festive banquet. The intensely thoughtful and deeply welcoming staff along with the seasonal menu are a celebration of both tradition and innovation. Without a doubt best meal I’ve ever had.

No restaurant is like Den. This is where you feel like eating at home, the food cooked by your mom  - the best food on earth.  Flavours, textures, chemistry, all is there, all in symbiosis. Not pretentious, with local ingredients, the dishes are executed perfectly. Along the experience, a family atmosphere is being created with the staff and your dining partners (both couples from New York) whom I never met before dining at Den. Thank you Chef Hasegawa for sharing your amazing cuisine, Noriko for the stellar service and letting me try so many sake, and the whole team at Den for making this experience unique.
