Abechan is an awesome bartender, makes everyone comfortable in a cozy little corner of Golden Gai. We thought it was not opening on a weekday but it was!! Hiroshima gin and tonic is a must try. He knows how to prepare all sorts of drinks.

I came here on a Friday night after finishing a food tour. The bar seats about 7 people and has its own bathroom. The owner, Abe san, speaks good English and is very funny and welcoming. Abe san kept telling us some funny stories and most of the patrons joined in and laughed. It made the atmosphere even more relaxing and comfy. I tried the specialty Sakura Whiskey and Wasabi tequila, and they did not disappoint. I made some new friends at the end of the night. Definitely will be coming back to this place next time I'm in town.

Small bar in golden gai. The owner, Abe-Chan is awesome and speaks english. He tells good stories and makes amazing cherry blossom whiskey. We came back three times during our trip in Tokyo.

Came here because our friends wanted to go to the small bar that Rosalia recorded some of her "Tuya" song at. When our group of 6 walked in, we were nervous we wouldn't be able to enter given how tiny all of the bars are in the Golden Gai area of Shinjuku. We got lucky in that the bartender/owner (friendliest man ever) let us in and we stood around the bar mostly as there were already 5 others seated against the other side. This is a whisky-themed bar and cash only so come prepared. He had a lot of MLB-related paraphernalia including an Angels Ohtani pillow (which I happen to have the exact same one at home! Lol). Would highly recommend this place as the owner is so so nice and makes great drinks. He also gave us popcorn to munch on as we drank and talked. Amazing vibes! Good luck finding this place too! (It's in the second floor).

Highly recommend stop when bar hopping Golden Gai. This was the last stop on a food and drink tour i went on in Shinjuku and it was the best way to end the tour as we had a reservation for our group to have our last drink in this classic bar. Abe-chan has been running this bar for over a decade maybe close to two. It is intimate and on the second floor. He plays old school hip hop from the 90s as well for mood. There are business cards plastered on the wall for decoration so if you have one leave one for prosperity on the walls. He is a very personable bartender too and has allot of interesting drinks that are mostly whiskey based. He has a great collection of japanese whiskeys and ones that he has infused with different flavors like wasabi and sakura. He also has some made in honor of Shohei Ohtani who plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers and is on all the ads plastered all over Tokyo as of 2025. Also the stairs have to be the narrowest stairs i have ever went on. Love this place.

ABE-CHAN is unlike no other Space is small only seating about 8 But the whole experience is unreal Tons of similar bars in this small area but if you can get a seat here DO IT His whiskey selection was great Conversation even better Can't wait to go back on our next Japan trip

Excellent whisky bar in Shinjuku's Golden Gai district. Casual, relaxed and tiny. An excellent selection of Japanese whisky. The owner/bartender Abe is friendly and knowledgeable. His English is pretty good, though he humbly claims it's not.

Amazing place. Stopped by on a Monday night at 12am (jet lagged)! Really good music, not loud! Abe-Chan is super friendly! Showed us to how to eat sushi with your hands or yakitori (no chopsticks needed) when and how to pour sake, he recommended some places to eat among other things. It was me and my husband and we did not get bored here. Sake and Whisky were really good! I'll definitely visit again before we leave. I would recommend if you want to grab drink! It's right next to Deathmatch in Hell.

Do you like whiskey? Do you want to try Japanese whiskey? This is the place to do it. Abe-chan has one of the most lo key bars to grab a proper glass of whiskey.

There are so many amazing bars in Golden Gai, but Bar Asyl is definitely a hidden gem among them. Abe is incredibly hospitable and will turn on any music that you would like. He has some house made infused liquors that are really good and a good selection of whiskey if that's your preference. He's also got a few refreshing cocktails.

Abe-Chan is an amazing host! This is a really cool little bar in Golden Gai up a narrow staircase with an excellent Japanese whisky selection and a few cocktails. Prices seemed comparable to other spots in Tokyo. Come for the whisky and stay to chat with Abe-Chan for a while.
