Ueno Zoo is an absolute gem in the heart of Tokyo! The zoo offers a perfect blend of nature and wildlife, making it a fantastic spot for families, couples, and animal lovers alike. The enclosures are well-maintained, and it’s clear that the staff genuinely care about the animals’ well-being.

One of the highlights is, of course, the giant pandas — an absolute must-see! But beyond that, the zoo is home to a diverse range of animals from around the world. The lush greenery and spacious layout make it a pleasant place to walk around, even on busy days.

With its rich history (being Japan’s oldest zoo) and educational exhibits, Ueno Zoo provides a fun and enriching experience. Highly recommend visiting if you’re in Tokyo!

A large and diverse zoo.
The zoo is divided between two islands which requires a little effort to move among attractions but also allows visitors to enjoy a great view of the environment.
Pandas are a must to see, but in weekends you should expect to spend at least 1 hour in queue to see them. Great viewing system that gives small groups 1 minute each of taking pictures of the panda to prevent overcrowding. The pandas’ route should be improved with more sun protection.
There are good options to eat something, especially considering that meals are thematically coherent (how could you resist to a rice meals with the shape of a panda?). Really appreciated the presence of a free water distributor. Cards are accepted.

Absolutely astonishing, a must go for any tourist or local at least once. The park is beautiful and there are plenty things to see. Birds, reptiles, nocturnal, small mammals, and many more. I spent less than 1000 yen but a zoo like this should cost more for the quality experience! Many vending machines and gift shops.

Cheap ticket for a large and diverse zoo. If you are willing to see every animal carefully, one day is not enough, otherwise you can see your favorite animals in one shot.

The Zoo is hard to beat in terms of the value. Adult only costs 600 yen and kids under 12 are free. They have a huge selection of animals to view, including two pandas, which require lining up (about half an hour). Gorilla section was the most interesting one and action packed.
