The Great Madras is super convenient since it's just a short walk away from the MRT station at Rochor. great location near bugis and haji lane. check-in process is fast, the room is clean and they provide u with amenities and we also borrow hairdryer from the reception, we got ‘the better room’ with pool view i think its very worth the pricee. i also liked the hotel aesthetics and vibe

Hilariously bad! They pay for good reviews so you should ignore these.

I'll start with the short list of good stuff. The area is lively with plenty of cheap eating options, and the pool is small but refreshing. They also had availability (for almost $300US a night!!!) during the F1.

The bad:
- Filthy rooms. Eg. the bathroom walls are covered with toothpaste splatter. There are ants everywhere.
- 4 days with no hot water during my 4 day stay.
- Didn't change my towels, replace water or take out the trash during the day.
- It's next door to a nightclub and it's LOUD, but they don't provide ear plugs.
- The staff will go out of their way to say no to the slightest request (for example, asking for two room keys rather than one). They just say that it's impossible, lying to your face.

This hotel reflects badly on the country of Singapore and should be shut down. Their "loyalty" program is almost certainly against the terms of service for the booking sites and I am going to report them.

The quick summary: Don’t bother thinking about staying here. Badly maintained, un-livable hotel rooms with unbothered service staff. Rooms are also built in paper thin walls and you can hear everything unfiltered going on outside your room.

Last night my partner surprised for on my birthday with a 2 night stay booking for a room through Agoda. I’m quite an easily pleased person- just need a decently clean comfortable room with working facilities. I’m here to share that we got NONE of that. Also mindful that I rarely leave bad reviews, this experience was so bad it needs to be publicized.

Again, it was beyond bad. We changed a total of 3 ROOMS in total in the span of 4 hours, raised our suspicion with the general operations of the space and we have had enough.

We were 1st put to room 308- the aircon was barely working, control wasn’t controlling anything. Called the staff for help, she pushed a few buttons, said she will check with the ‘technical team’ and that’s it. We called them again asking how’s the situation, but they just offered us another room.

2nd room was 306- it was decent, air was circulating well. So we settled in for awhile, watched a movie, and headed to bed. Barely 10mins in, nearing 12 midnight, the electricity tripped. And it tripped for every 10-30 seconds intervals. We called the front desk and they told us to unplug whatever we have plugged into the sockets. Well firstly, that already shows that it’s such a normal occurrence that they were so quick to tell us what to do for this temporary solution. After doing so, it was still happening. We got annoyed obviously, so we packed up and went down to say nope this isn’t working. They offered us another room change, fine. We said if anything else happens in the last room, we’re done.

3rd and last room was 206- when we stepped into the room, immediately the electricity tripped. At this point we know that the problem is around the whole hotel- the management obviously isn’t upkeeping the place at ALL.

Other than electricity trips, the rooms were dusty at corners and nooks, rooms smelt musty (all 3 rooms we went to had the aircon switched on at full blast, probably to get rid of the smell and hence the constant tripping of electricity?) so we noped out of there.

Haven’t even managed to spend 1 night in there and we have to face all these issues? We requested for a refund. The front desk told us that because it was booked through Agoda, we had to go through the platform to request for the refund and to drop them an email to their (probably non-existent) ‘customer service’. Agoda helpdesk was helpful and reached out to the hotel, and got back to us saying that the hotel will process a refund to us.

In the end? They refunded us a whopping generous amount of SGD$10 as a form of ‘goodwill’. This is so ridiculous I don’t know if I should laugh or cry about it. Also true to whatever other reviewers are saying, at every room and corridor and lift they have put up this ‘loyalty programme’ sign asking customers to leave a good review for them to save their asses, and in return give a $30 cash back that they also offer to give back by bank transfer or PayPal. My god how dishonest and unbothered they are.

So being nice, here’s my recommendation to the hotel- either you undergo a full renovation to save this place and get it up and running as a DECENT livable hotel, or just close down and never operate again. The staff here looks like they’re so used to all these complaints and nonsense it’s laughable. The same small group of staff are also operating the hostel beside The Great Madras (not so great after all!)

The service is so bad!
1. We had to wait 30-40 minutes to enter the hotel room after check-in because the room had not been cleaned up and was not ready yet.
2. We stayed for 2 nights and during those 2 nights the bathroom light was off (we complained to the staff 3 times at different times but they did nothing)
3. On the last night the building's electricity went out at around 22.00 and we needed to wait about 1 hour for the power to come back on.
4. Didn't change towels, replace water or take out the trash on the next day.

The worst is there was no apology from the staff for this incident.

It is not as bad as the reviews described.

I think they are actively working on the feedback here. TV is working, bedsheets/towels are clean, front desk staff was nice, toilets had soap/shampoo provided .
