My two-month stay at the LTL Mandarin School in Taipei was nothing short of amazing! I can confidently say that my Chinese has improved from an experienced novice to a well-prepared intermediate individual! Classes are catered to your specific interests and skill level, as one day, you can learn terms regarding academia and politics. In contrast, the next day you can learn about comparative grammar structures. Due to this specific catering by my teachers, Ivory Lin and Tammy Hsu, my listening and speaking skills were developed immensely and gave me clarity on my path to learning Chinese!

Furthermore, one of the main reasons I loved my time at LTL Taipei was my experience with the staff and workers who were diligently helping others! Both of the Directors of Studies, Riona and Alin, helped me understand how LTL works and the cultural setting of Taiwan! Additionally, Greta, Marine, Ottavia, Hannah, and Rushi all helped me with their recommendations of specific areas that I should visit throughout Taipei and across Taiwan. One of these places was Jiefen, where I, Riona, Greta, and other students visited the mountainous town to experience shopping in their street markets, drink tea from Amei Tea House, and witness the beautiful views of the landscape meeting the ocean.

Overall, my time at LTL has impacted what I desire in my future career choices and will stay one of my most cherished memories. I plan to return next summer to experience it and explore other parts of Taiwan!

I've been at LTL for one month now and everything has been amazing so far! My first two weeks I had Jessica, I now receive classes with Tammy and Francine. They are all amazing, each one has a different way of teaching that I feel like compliments the other. The pace is neither too fast or too slow, and given that the classes are small (I have only 2 classmates right now) the teacher can really make sure everyone is understanding and progressing at the same pace. Other than the classes, all of the staff at LTL are amazing and incredibly friendly. They organize lunch together often and different events with the students so you really get to know everyone, even inf you don't have classes together. They also have the option of staying with a host family, which I am doing now, and the family they paired me with is incredible, I also get a chance to practice my Mandarin after schools with someone that knows that I'm learning and has some patience haha. After only one month in LTL my mandarin has improved exponentially, and I'm very much looking forward to the rest of my stay.

I came to Taiwan by myself, hoping that if I took group classes with other Chinese language students, I’d have a structured environment in which to learn Chinese, and a built-in set of potential friends who had the time to explore Taiwan together and an interest in doing so. I looked at the university programs at NTU (Taida) and NTNU (Shida), as well as at some of the smaller private programs scattered throughout the city. In the end, for my goals, I think I made the right decision by choosing LTL. While there are probably more intensive programs where you might be able to improve your language level faster, LTL is pretty flexible within a range. It doesn’t have an overly strict or rigid format, and is pretty accommodating to student’s needs. Even in the small group classes, my teachers Francine and Tammy X seemed to be able adjust to my level pretty well. The quality of teaching is high and the teachers are friendly. The students were pretty diverse, coming from predominately Western backgrounds instead of Asian countries, and could all speak at least a little English. Thanks to my student advisor Gretta and the office team including Riona and Marine for organizing group lunches and activities and making everyone feel included. So, if you want a fairly-priced program that is a bit more relaxed and flexible, and where it’s easy to join a group and make friends in a short period of time, LTL is probably a good, or maybe the best choice.

best place if you wanna learn language. The subject that they teach us is really useful for daily conversation, because they didn't teach some random things like any other course.

LTL also bring me to a lot of place in Taiwan, we get to see the Beauty of taiwan and their culture. Not to mention the hidden gem for food is really good hehehe. 🥳🥳🥳🥳

Overall, my experience at the LTL Mandarin School in Taiwan was incredible! Going into the camp, I had little to no experience in mandarin, but my teacher, Anqi, was especially helpful and set the right pace so everyone in the class could follow along with no problems. I went for a total of 2 weeks and I didn’t think learning this much in such a small time period was possible. I got to learn basic phrases, various items you would encounter in your daily life, how to order in Mandarin, and so much more! I also stayed in the dorm instead of staying with a host family and it was fantastic! The room was clean and neat when I first arrived and the AC system worked almost too well (without the AC, I wouldn’t have survived lol.) The dorm teachers were also very welcoming and helpful. During the typhoon where we had to stay inside most of the day, the two dorm teachers sacrificed going out in the harsh rain to pick up some warm soup, dumplings, and ingredients to make a homemade hot pot! I had such a nice experience even when I was stuck inside for most of the day :). Lastly, I want to talk briefly about the daily field trips you go on with your class. I attached some pictures below of stuff we saw and everything was so cool!! If you are reading this and want to sign up someone or sign yourself up for a international camp, I would 100% recommend this program! Again, it was so fun and I would absolutely do this again! Thanks to all the teachers, students, and others for making this such a special experience for me! 🫶
