One of the top highlights of my trip to Kaohsiung. Really, really love this place. The statues and architecture is incredible and the museum and art gallery were great. Everyone here is so nice. I wish there were more transit to and from this spot.

Went to this museum from Tainan by bus. So happy I made this trip. The museum is breath taking not only the big Buddha but also many other things to see. Make sure to bring your hiking shoes, plenty of walking to do here. After you have finished exploring they have some inside.

This place is enormous! If you walk around all three sections, and take it all on, you could easily spend the whole day here.

The main shrine and sutra repository were standouts, the scale of those buildings leaves you with a real sense of grandeur and humility.

The vegetarian restaurants are almost all in the Buddha museum section, where the 8 Pagodas are, and seem all reasonably priced. We started at the other end of the monastery so had eaten by the time we found these.

Definitely worth a day trip, especially if you enjoy learning about other religions or cultures

About 1h drive from Kaoshiung main city, or 1 to 1.5h from a nearby attraction such as Moon World. Car park is outside the compound, and the absolute compound is huge, so would reccomend to wesr comfortable footwear & expect to walk ~>1km roundtrip. There were food stalls in the comoound - Starbucks, tea shop, restaurant etc so food is not a concern.
