The service here was excellent, and the food was good, though not particularly memorable. The restaurant leans toward American-Western fine dining. I visited for their Valentine’s special, which was a course set with three wine pairings for 6,500 each.

While the experience was pleasant, the cocktails and whisky selection were average and didn’t stand out. Overall, it’s a decent choice for a special occasion, but not one I’d rush back to.

I had the pleasure of experiencing truly exceptional customer service at this Michelin-starred restaurant.

After another group complained about their table near the door, we were graciously moved to the entrance without our consent. How generous!

Apparently, the "exceptional customer service" only applied to the other table, as they were quickly accommodated.
To top it off, we were seated right next to clothes hanging, like we were dining in a dressing room.
Nothing says fine dining like enjoying your meal next to a rack of jackets.

On a positive note, the sourdough and duck was quite good, but the other food was just fair. This is definitely not what I expected from a Michelin-starred establishment!

Finally one of these fusion western-Taiwanese restaurants bring fresh foods without them being bland. Good wine pairing too and very good service. Drinks were also top notch

TLDR:. with some service misses, cheap ingredients and dishes that just did not flow, we were quite disappointed in our Christmas Eve dinner at MUME especially given that it's a "Top 50 World's Best Restaurant in Asia" ranking at #34.

SETTING: made a reservation here for Dec 24th at 8:30pm. The restaurant is not what I expected it's dark, small and a bit cramped with an awkward layout.

There's about 8 tables total mix of 2 and 4 tops in the main dining room and then two 2 tops tucked away in a tight corner between one cage of glassware and one wall of pickled vegetables. This small corridor is where we were sat directly across the "open" kitchen which is quite hot given the cooking. I sat staring at a dark wood wall for most of the dinner directly behind my partner.

The tables are also desks with cutlery inside that you have to open to pick the utensils for each dish.  It provides for a bit of uncomfortableness as you either have to sit far enough away from the table to open the drawer or move your seat away each time or have the drawer dig into your stomach (like I did). Cool idea but practically not efficient.

FOOD: We were SO excited for this dinner and unfortunately .... Did not enjoy many of the dishes. I'm not a picky eater but the first few courses did not taste very good, whether it be lack of seasoning, cheap ingredients (one of the main fish courses was a tile fish in a green lemongrass sauce that was plain), or no flow.  The ingredients didn't elevate the taste of the main protein or clashed with the main protein in many cases.

I ALWAYS finish every single dish when I have a tasting menu and could not finish the tile fish dish or the abalone with bitter melon.

I hate writing bad reviews but am writing this as we are sitting in the restaurant because of how disappointing the meal was. Thankfully, The last two dishes (lobster and duck) brought up the initial 2 stars I was going to give this, and were the only ones we finished but did not showcase any creativity or out of the ordinary.

SERVICE: The service other than being quite slow in the beginning (we waited 30 minutes for our first course), was great. Each server was knowledgeable about every dish and very kind and attentive.

VERDICT: Coming out at just under $500 USD, this was by far the most expensive meal we had in Taipei and by far the most tasteless.  I personally would not recommend as there are many other cheaper places you can enjoy.
