Outstanding!
The ambience, service, food- every single second was top notch!

Attentive waitress by the beautiful name of Selene and all of her colleagues looked after us splendidly.
They understood the drill before we knew- this table wants to eat&drink and simply create memories shared forever.

A wine list well balanced in price points and wine styles.
The food is presented with passion and respect for the ingredients given on the plate.
An absolute treat being in the space enjoying a pure and honest dinner expressing each single component on the plate.

Bistra is a very ‘cosy’ venue, a little bit tight, but the vibe more than makes up in that regard.

Superb knowledge of wines, had an excellent savoury Chardonnay on recommendation from the sommelier.

The service was mostly good, although I thought it was a miss to not mention starters were portioned as 3 for a party of 2, which is common at other restaurants as courtesy.

Onto the food - again, mostly good without being standout.

The bad:
- A big disappointment for me were the shelled tiger prawns which had not been deveined (yuck!).
- Mussels extremely overpriced at $42, also very heavy on the mustard which overpowered entire dish.

The good:
- chicken liver pate was perfectly executed. I enjoyed the flavours of the tiger prawns and scallops were cooked well.
- stand out dish of the night was the mushroom and ricotta agnolotti - I could drink a litre of that chicken jus!
- choc mousse was light and airy, pairing perfectly with cherries. Those sable biscuits were not great though and could be left off the dish imo

The mid:
- Lamb rump was a solid dish without blowing your mind.

All in all though, I enjoyed my experience at Bistra. Lovely vibe & wines and I did enjoy the dishes overall.

Absolutely divine - this is such a brilliant little neighbourhood gem that bats waaaaay above its average. The wine list is impeccable and the knowledge of the team is second to none, the food is outstanding and the atmosphere is glorious. Highly recommend.

Gorgeous food on white table cloth and the tiny space between tables took me back to a nice bistro in Paris. Service was professional and attentive - they didn’t have birthday candle so gave an actual candle instead. Loved it.

One of my favourite restaurant visits in Melbourne this year. Cozy space, impeccable service, a beautifully executed menu, and a wine list that would appease any wine geek, even on the wallet front (a rarity in Melbourne these days). Plus, they do BYO’s on weekend lunch, which puts Bistra on a “unicorn” restaurant list for me. Honestly, I couldn’t ask for more.

Diving in to our actual dining experience, the cheeseburger definitely lived up to its hype, but spinach and ricotta dumplings was probably our standout dish. Notably, we had one dish we weren’t fond of which they happily took off our bill. And then there was the St. John’s inspired roasted bone marrow and parsley salad dish-of-the-day - delicious on its own, but elevated to another plane with the 08’ Breuer Schlossberg. We left the restaurant satiated.
