Across Australia, all RSL's have some commonalities. These include, but are not limited to: Old, drunk men that insist on calling nice young ladies such as myeslf «love» Pretty young bartenders that look uncomfortable anytime they serve anyone in the above category Dangerously cheap house wine Food that is best described as deeply average Pokie machies and the associated free food Unsurprisingly, Chatswood RSL features all of these characteristics. It also happily features Friday Night Karaoke, which is what my friends and I drag ourselves to one dreary September Friday. After approximately 17 vodka raspberry's at $4 a pop and a standard pub grub chicken schnitty, we get into the karaoke scene. With a gusto that disgusts all around us - the large amount of extremely old people in the room are not impressed by a bunch of twentysomethings screaming the words to Teenage Dirtbag. The bartenders, by contrast, love it. If karaoke isn't your thing, wise choice. But luckily for you, this doesn't limit your ability to experience the North Shore's foremost Return Serviceman's Club. In an attempt to rid itself of the aforementioned RSL perceptions, Shades Bar has been opened and features a faux wooden flood (screams class), cocktails and beautiful-looking cakes. The RSL also features cheap weekday lunches, conference rooms and many, many pokies machines. Not quite something for everyone, but it appeals to a wider demographic than most registered clubs

We came home from the city on the train absolutely starving hungry and because Chatswood RSL is just out of the train station, we figured the bistro would be a fast place to grab a bite to eat. Boy did we regret it. If you're not a member, the prices are higher for you everywhere in the club for one thing. Sort of fair enough, but it adds up to a hefty amount if you're having dinner and drinks. We ordered a steak (around $25 in price) and a vegetarian dish of vegetarian nachos ($15.50 if I remember correctly). The steak was quite small and the accompanying vegetables were poorly cooked. The vegetarian nachos, well.. they came to us and told us they didn't have any. After explaining that the person who ordered them could not eat meat under any circumstances, the best they could come up with was a plate of mixed asian vegetables!! As the steak was already being cooked, we felt stuck and my partner basically had little choice. When they arrived it was a sad little plate with veges you may normally pay $5.50 for as a side dish. We queried whether this was seriously still valued at $15.50 and were told yes it was, because they were Asian veges. The bottom line, my partner left hungry and neither of us will ever visit that club again.

There's plenty to do and see at the Chatswood RSL Club. Better than your average RSL, the venue is expansive and rather popular with members and guests. They are open for lunch and dinner, 7 days a week. Most famously known for their incredibly cheap drinks, locals flock to this RSL with membership card in hand to receive significant discounts. You must be a member or have a friend who is a member to gain access to these discounts. Membership is only $5.50 for one year and will get you: - A free meal and drink on your birthday - Chance at winning $10, 000 every week - Discounted drinks - Free drink when you join - and many more! The bistro serves better than average pub style food. Dishes are very reasonably priced, between $7-$10. The meal specials are a major attraction and makes a dinner out with drinks very affordable. The club comes equipped with 31 televisions and entertainment in the form of a TAB, pool tables and gaming. Live music is also a regular occurrence. Attended Chatswood RSL on Wednesday 1st July 2015 for lunch with friends at their IPOH Restaurant which serves Malaysin curry. The kitchen has a huge window. I looked inside and saw how clean the kitchen is. They have a special $9 lunch menu . We ordered 3 Laksas with chicken beef etc @ $9 each .This wasnt the best laksa I have eaten but it was large and very tasty . It had ample amounts of fish balls and chicken slices . I am a member of this club. The $5 joining fee is great value cause you get a free meal and drinks on your birthday worth $20. If you live on the North Shore join and enjoy this great modern club.

If you want to know what bad decor of the 1970s was like you have got to visit this place. All food microwaved tastless and beans with out colour. Dont bother a visit. Scary!
