Food here was pretty good. Service is reasonable. Price is ok. Gets a little busy at times but never as busy as the other big DimSum restaurant in Westfield. Cash is encouraged and they make it obvious! Hmmm... But if you insist that you do not have any, they will accommodate credit card. I heard the cashier mumble under her skin that it was a bad day as they started off with 12 credit card payments that morning! ----------- Addendum 10 months later the food quality has deteriorated together with service. Obviously this is a personal opinion. The restaurant is now not busy. Cash is now insisted on. Try to use a credit card and the cashier says they have to add $2/- a head extra cover charge! That is way more than the 3% often quoted for using AMEX. The is just another surcharge!

Sometimes when you take a gamble it pays off, and this was one of those occasions. With this restaurant offering "20% off Yum Cha lunch" during weekdays one cannot help but wonder what they have to offer. To add to the risk factor I decided to take my partner. Though the place was alive and busy with the chatter of patrons, we where seated instantly and offered free hot tea (something of a novelty now as I understand it). The place was clean and food was made available to us pretty much instantly. The range of food was enough for us to enjoy a good selection without being too overwhelmed. The food was always hot, tasted relatively fresh, and traditional from a Westerns standpoint. The staff was abundant and willing to help. We got a little lost in translation a couple of times, but seriously what do you expect? We enjoyed ourselves and filled up on all that we could, then went over to the counter to pay with our stamped form in hand. After the 20% discount the grand total was only $26.60... for two people! I was in shock by how cheap it was. A word of advice, take cash to avoid any high credit card fees, lucky for us we had cash. Our only disappointment was not receiving a glass of water that we requested, but we never followed it up as the tea was just fine. (Another note, if you plan on parking in the Mandarin Centre's parking lot be sure to have your parking ticket validated when paying so you receive the free 3 hours parking.) Update: Unfortunately now that the restaurant has established itself, the 20% off lunch no longer applies. However we still go as we love the food.

I've grown up with Yum Cha and I like to think that I've experienced what Sydney has to offer... and with that being said, this little gem in Chatswood has something that sets it apart from the others... exceptional service. Normally at a big/busy Yum Cha you are rushed to a table, spend time hoping (praying) for a cart of what you want to come around and politely declining things you've already had or items you'd rather not partake in. The overwhelming effect is that at a typical Yum Cha your tend to feel alienated (faceless) and whenever you speak to a wait staff you are an annoyance at best or ignored/forgotten at worst. At Fortune Place whenever you ask for something the staff are either speedy at getting it, or yell out to get someone to grab it for you immediately. It doesn't matter if it's more chili sauce or a particular dish... they care and get it done. The Good: Quick responsive waiters, ladies with carts actually are nice and check with other staff if you want, best BBQ pork pastries, great Prawn dumplings. The Not so good: Average fried rice noodles, chinese veggies. Chinese tea was slightly bitter (?). Tip: if you park in Mandarin centre ask to get your parking validated !! If you are in Chatswood and wanting Yum Cha, skip going to the big franchise places and try Fortune Place... I think it's great.

I was looking for treat when i went to this Yum Cha in the Mandarin Center Unfortunately the food was average ,each time I asked if they had one of the usual Yum Cha items on the menu ,the answer was "Come back tomorrow or next week" ...Well sorry I came on that day ,it was pretty disappointing. We had a total of 9 items and the bill came to $83 which i thought was really expensive as this included basics like mango pudding ,sticky rice ,custard tarts steamed vegetable and some streamed dumplings ,we didn't order anything special-NO crab ,No lobster . The restaurant was fairly busy and trolleys took a really long time to come around,so I must be more fussy than others On the positive side the staff were very polite and spoke English .Its a shame the food is so ordinary and pricey ,i will look for another Yum cha

Almost couldn't find it. It is hidden among all the stalls in the food court. It's a super good deal with only $4.9/dish on weekdays and $5.9/dish on weekends without paying for tea. But the dishes are a bit small compared to other places. The food tastes quite good. My absolute favourite is the beef tripe and the pork ribs. The siu mai is a bit dry and everything with prawn didn't taste quite fresh. But the egg tarts, mango pancakes, the White rice fish, and the pork tripes were still pretty satisfying. All in all, we left with three full stomachs and a happy mood.

I have been in this place several times, but only had yum cha once. Since I went there late that time (after 2pm), so I could not say whether the not so good yum cha was usual or because it was well passed yum cha time. As for dinner, the food was alright if you order your food through set dinner menu or the special menu, and the price was good. But if you order your food from the big book menu, not only the food was not good, and you also had to wait for a long time.
