No, this is not a place to go to for the popular Japanese manga franchise. Naruto is a small eat-in and takeaway restaurant of the same name on George Street. Located conveniently next to Central station, this is a busy eating playground that's usually full of local and international students. The close proximity to the University of Technology, TAFE college and the number of Central hostel's in the area are to blame, I guess. But the food is decent fare and comes at a decent price so they know a good thing when they see it. They also have a sushi takeaway counter which is really popular with passers-by. They have a daily lunch special that usually costs around $7, which is definitely a go-to meal for a cheap fill. A favourite order of mine is the teriyaki chicken bento box. A traditional bento lunch comes with separated compartments - in this case a side of jasmine rice in one compartment, with sliced teriyaki chicken main, a small salad and a separate bowl of steaming miso soup entree. The downside the last time I went was the disproportion of rice to chicken (it seemed such a waste of yummy jasmine rice) which just didn't justify a four star rating.

I'm going to call myself out before I even begin for not writing a well-rounded review of Naruto. Truth be told, I have never even walked completely inside this little take-away Japanese shop. Nope, I've never been able to walk past the sushi roll display case right out on George Street. But you know what? I'm not that sorry about that. The sushi rolls are fresh, huge and cheap. At an average of $2.60 per roll, they may not be the cheapest available, but for the amount of goods and rice they pack in that seaweed wrapped mini-tower, it's definitely worth the price. They don't have most complete array of types either, but that Mod Aus spin on sushi combining pumpkin and sundried tomatoes freaks me out anyhow, so I'm good with the traditional. I got teriyaki tofu with avo the the other day, and it was tasty. What's more, if you buy two roll, Naruto will give you a free bowl of miso soup. I didn't opt for this when I went because I was a girl on the move and soup doesn't strike me as the most mobile food, but I will be sure to take them up on this soon.
