GF and vegan! The funky chunky pie and Moroccan Tangine were the best we had in Sidney, and also the little “wellness treats” felt very refreshing after a day by Bondi.
Eat there and you have friendly warm service/company or take out and go enjoy the views nearby ;)

Funky Pies is a real gem in Bondi. It’s got a cozy, easygoing feel, and the staff are always super friendly. And the pies! Absolute comfort food. Handmade, packed with flavor, and just really satisfying.

Great deal! Fun menu! We had the butterfish chikn and the special shepherds pie, with the mash and mushy peas. We loved everything we ate. It's also just a short walk from the beach. Staff were super friendly and helpful.

Super delicious, fantastic staff. This was our favorite meal on our whirlwind 48hrs in Sydney. Not pictured was the dessert special — apple pie with warm coconut cream. I enjoyed it with a soya latte. Only regret was having to share it.

The gluten free Moroccan bean pie was to die for and such a treat when you can't eat gluten! My partner is able to eat gluten and he got the funky mushroom pie which he loved. The crust looked so flakey too. They didn't have any gluten free pies ready but were able to make it in less than 15 minutes. They offer seating outside and also have a freezer section so you can take products home to bake yourself!

Funky for sure! Reminds me of Berkeley :) 3 people had pies, all were amazing-- curry, cheesy chicken & the house special. Loved the mushy peas & potatoes, as well. Yummy salad. Teen had an açaí type bowl, gave it a thumbs up. Strawberry milkshake was OK, not great (perhaps overblended- it was thin). Friendly service, though a little slow. Limited seating. A small selection of vegan groceries, too.

Savory pie shops are a ubiquitous Australian institution up and down the coast. However, I have not patronized one, as they are not that vegetarian-friendly and seem a tad sketch to me. Enter this all-vegan place, loaded with delicious-sounding options. You're not missing out on anything in these pies; there's plenty of fat and protein to make them a complete and filling meal. They're well worth the price, and the spicy Thai pie I tried was certainly craveably delicious, both in its flaky crust and satisfying filling. You can order mashed potatoes or salad on the side and they have a few other items, but I feel confident in saying that the pies are the main attraction, and they are a winner. Besides the restaurant, they also deliver, even to Brisbane. If they don't get around to expanding up here, I wonder if it might be worth it, as there are no other places like this that I am aware of.

Jesus. Amazing! All vegan so you don't have to think about it. Delicious pies with mashed potatoes and peas. Chocolate bars. Milkshakes. Tiny place, though, so only a few can sit here at a time. Excellent!

Really delicious vegan pies, I couldn't believe how well they could create a tender meaty taste they way they do. I think someone told me it was pulverised mushrooms? Wherever it was, it was delicious. The only reason for 4/5 stars was the seating. Really cramped space, so you best be ready to get cozy if you're eating in.

I love a good pie as much as the next person, but I admittedly am as much a pie snob as I am a pizza and coffee snob. If it 'aint primo, I'd rather have nothing. Funky Pies are about as primo as pies get, with the added benefit for a vegetarian who tries to keep as fair trade and eco-friendly as possible (and affordable) of being, you guessed it, vegetarian and "eco-funky" (cute)! And, joy of joys for my regular, hyper-allergic eating partner they make gluten-free versions of these marvellous testaments to pie-dom. Hurrah! I inhaled a Funky Chunky- shitake mushroom pie, yeah that's right! And it was spectacular. Chunk up your funk with the mash, mushy peas n' gravy add-ons.

Yay for Funky Pies. I think it's best if you go during the day for lunch, because at night you'll be left with only a few options and the pies would have been sitting there for a while. Met with chill, friendly service, we had a look to see what was left for the day. On the menu they have a decent variety, all vegan, and I was quite pleased they still had one rustic Bolognese pie left as it was the one I wanted to try. The other one we tried was the chilli non carne (mushroom nuggets, kidney beans & capsicum in a mild chilli tomato salsa). Pies are $6.50 and $12 including a side. They no longer had any mash, peas & gravy left so we went for a salad. As mentioned on the menu, the crust is indeed flaky and delicious. Makes for a premium pie. But the filling is also important, and Funky Pies do not disappoint. Both were super tasty, if I had to pick only one I'd say the chilli non carne was slightly better, but only just. The capsicum and tomato salsa did it for me. As delicious as the crust was, the pies could do with a bit more filling, but this is so minor because the pies were really that good. So good, so worth checking out, and I'm glad to have gotten around to it finally as these guys have been on my list for ages!

YOU MUST VISIT THIS PLACE IF YOU ARE VEGETARIAN. I lived in Australia for a year, seeing the classic Aussie pie in every restaurant, wishing I could try one as a vegan. Then I found Funky Pies and all of my food dreams came true. I brought my omnivore boyfriend, we ordered two pies (the tuscan mushroom and another which I don't remember the name of), and we sat down. I looked around me imagining that this must be what heaven looks like. Funky Pies offers any type of vegan drink you could want, including kombucha, coconut water, the works. They even sell vegan desserts like ice cream and little ice cream sandwiches and a lot of other things too. When we got our pies, I went crazy with the photography, and then we settled in and ate them. I am not exaggerating when I tell you this was seriously one of the best meals of my life. It was that good. Not only were they insanely delicious, but the whole meal came out to less than $30 for two people. If you are visiting Sydney, do yourself a favor and go to Funky Pies.

This restaurant is super cute and the service was really great!! I ordered the funky monkey (I believe) and it was SO GOOD. Would never even guess it is vegan. The mashed potatoes as well as gravy and peas were also delicious. The two girls working there were super friendly. It is a very casual place and not all the pies are offered everyday. Definitely will return though!!
