Went there with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday and it was indeed a memorable one! Even though we called to make the reservation on the day itself, we were lucky that there was one cancellation and they managed to squeeze us in for a 6pm seating. SERVICE: Superb! There were a couple of waiters/waitress that served us throughout the evening but all of them were very professional and nice. FOOD: love love love - fried fish fritters as a starter (free), so good....that you know your evening is going to be a bliss :) - free warm bread rolls with honey butter & normal butter, yum yum ! - Pan seared salmon (main) : loved the basil & prawn spring roll ! Perfectly cooked salmon....execution was PERFECT ! - Roast pork loin (main): my first foam experience (*giggle*) ! the chorizo & crispy barley risotto went really well with the pork....giving texture to the dish. - Warm chocolate fondant (dessert): thank god the coconut milk sorbet was not overpowering, went well with the warm chocolate goodness oozing out from the fondant :) I guess my ONLY (but small) complaint is that the salmon skin could be a little more crispy??? but im a picky eater....... (With such good food, I wish I can celebrate my birthday everyday.......but I guess my boyfriend will go broke!)

I believe this restaurant is either French or French cuisine inspired because that's what it tasted like. The food was good, obviously alot of effort involved in preparation of one dish and so forth. The chef seemed the kind to likes get intimate with the customers, so there were times we saw him serving and presenting the food himself. My partner was a bit unimpressed by these actions because he witnessed the chef get too close to the food when speaking therefore bits of spittle landed amongst the dinner. That aside, you have degustation or a la carte menu options. We decided on a la carte because both turned out to be the same pricing and we wanted to choose our own food and have bigger portions. Not that the portions were large to start with, nope they're typically pricy restaurant style sizes. Which to be expected so no big deal. We didn't order any wines but I peeked at that menu and it was decent, mainly Aussie wines with afew smatterings of European. We had diet cokes, which set you back at $8 per small glass. Everywhere you go these days everyone charges their own ridiculousness to a soft drink anyway. It's a small restaurant, requires reservations with a random mix of mirror portraits decorating one side wall. So if you're lucky you can check yourself out whilst you dine and we all know someone who enjoys doing that eh. For entrees we had octopus and pork belly. Mains was lamp rump and shoulder and waygu beef. Apparently the waygu beef had just been slow cooked for 15hrs at 97 degrees...so according to my scientific calculations, if we had been served an hour earlier would the waiter proudly brag to us that the waygu had been been slow cooked 14hrs... The waygu did come with a pulled pork roll situation which was probably my favourite of the entire dinner, too bad the waygu was so filling I couldn't finish the pork. For desserts we had a selection of European cheeses with crackers which we could've easily sourced at Coles and a Caribbean carrot cake. According to the chef what made it Caribbean was the random cubes of pineapple jellies. Hm. We also had extra side of potatoes which we didn't eat because they were plain as balls. And some bread rolls which came with honey and salted butter. There was a free fish cake ball served as a starter as well. This place was expensive there's no way round that. In conclusion, the food was top quality but good for one time visits only. We'd never come back here again, there's too many other pricy restaurants we enjoy more that we'd rather waste our monies on.

Potentially, the worst degustation I have ever been to. Over priced. Poor, poor, poor quality. Bad service. Cheese plate was a selection of 4 1cmx1cm pieces - $15. All meals were similar to this. No one in the restaurant was impressed or full by the end of their meal. Will not return and advise others to look elsewhere.

Incredible experience and incredible food. My husband and I were looking for a nice, fancy dinner to end our month long honeymoon and the Devonshire more than delivered. It's a small restaurant with only about 15 tables. It was much quieter than other Sydney restaurants that we went to, and was decorated very nicely. The staff were friendly and did a great job serving us throughout the meal. There were two options: A tasting menu for $90 and then an a la carte menu. One thing to note is that they do have a vegetarian tasting menu as well, so if you're a vegetarian, let them know. They were also extremely accommodating of my husband's food allergies and made substitutions that he found wonderful. The meal started off with a small potato fish-ball in a creamy sauce. it was delicious. The free bread was warm and a nice touch. The meal proceeded at a pleasant pace. The first few dishes came out quickly- to give us something to eat, and then they slowed down as the heavier meat courses came. Everything was wonderful. There were interesting tastes throughout the meal. My two favorite courses were the black pudding and the corned brisket croustillant. They were only a few bites, but they were out of this world delicious. The brisket in particular was tender and just a bit salty and it was wrapped in an excellent, thin bread wrap. We ordered a cheese course before we moved into the desserts, which was a great idea. The cheeses were well chosen and went very nicely with both the quince paste, and the two types of crackers- one more fruity and the other more traditional cracker. I much preferred the carrot cake dessert to the chocolate one, so my husband and I decided to trade desserts. It was a great idea. I cannot recommend the devonshire highly enough. They run an excellent restaurant and deserve any praise that they receive.

We had a wonderful dinner here. We did not bring any wine so I don't know of the corkage fee at Devonshire. We went with the seven course tasting menu with wine pairings. They were nice enough rotate out lamb and put in another dish for us. Food was outstanding as well as the wine was very nice. We had a white Bordeaux and Gamay that were particularly nice. The dinner took about three hours so factor that into your timing. Staff was great. Recommend this if you are a foodie.

Came here for my mum's birthday after hearing fab reviews Walked into the restaurant which had a cute little atmosphere, the mirrors on the wall and the decoration definitely did remind me of a 'tea party like' English setting. The restaurant was cozy and we were seated towards the kitchen/bar on a big round table. Our waiter's name was Jeremy (Hi Jeremy its Kate with a K) and he was fantastic providing the entertainment for the night. We ordered a couple of entrees which were all delicious and for mains I had the fish with the 'risotto'. A very nouveau dish came out but in saying that was delicious and was presented beautifully. To finish off I shared the Creme Brulee with my Dad. It was served in a pretty pink teacup with ice cream on the side. The teacup was quite deep and filled right to the top with the silky Creme Brulee. The golden hard caramel on the top was perfect and delicious I loved this dessert so much! Will definitely be returning for more of Jeremy's entertainment and of course to try the degustation menu

Despite booking 3 weeks ahead, we arrived last night at the Devonshire looking forward to their a Degustation menu (at $130 a head) only to be seated at a small table for 2 when there were 3 of us. Not happy, especially after the third time being brushed by passing staff we left given the pretentious staff refused to give us a proper table. Never again! However, all was not lost as we were able to get a table next door at Mohr Fish the iconic seafood cafe. Great food, friendly staff and they're now licensed as well. I literally bought the T-Shirt. Thanks for nothing Devonshire and hey, 10 out of 10 Mohr Fish. Bottom-line, spent one third the money for a wonderful experience.

I LOVED this restaurant. I had no expectations and didn't have any background info on The Devonshire and what I was presented with was a sophisticated and delicious 8 course degustation menu at a great value. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it has been one of my favorite meals in Sydney. Each dish was creative and unique but not over the top and there was a lot of care in the pairing of ingredients, the purees, and the sauces. Each dish was also a piece of art but in a simplistic and elegant way. My favorite dishes were the carrot custard and the black beer battered squid, along with the cheesecake in a shot glass...but it's hard to choose a favorite because I loved them all. The service was very attentive and friendly. I think The Devonshire is a great combination of class and genuineness. I look forward to my next visit!

Absolutely wonderful experience at this little gem in Surry Hills. We received great reviews from friends and we were not disappointed. We were made to feel comfortable, the service was friendly yet efficient, the food was satisfying but creative, and the matching wines were interesting yet appropriately complementary. And not overly priced. All other details are irrelevant - they nailed everything important. Ill be back for sure.
